Linemens rodeo at
Agricenter April 26
Special to the Times-Journal
Fifty two teams from all over
the Southeast will be in Perry on
April 26 to compete in the 1997
Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter.
The annual event will feature
17 electric membership corpora
tions, 11 municipalities, and 24
investor owned utility companies.
This year, Flint EMC will have
two teams participating.
During the competition, the
teams will demonstrate the skills
they use everyday while perform
ing their jobs. The rodeo, which
features the best of the best,
emphasizes safety, team work,
and job knowledge.
The event offers something for
everyone. Activities for the kids
include, bucket truck rides, face
painting, chalk drawing, fishing
and a robot. There will be plenty
of food and drinks, so come out
and have a good time.
Times for the event will be
from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Junior Woodmen raise funds to
help purchase school supplies

Members of Modem Woodmen
of America, Junior Service Club
recently finished their project of a
fund drive to help Cory and Larry
Brown purchase school items and
other items.
The money raised, some $154,
will be matched by their society’s
home office. Money raised came
from sales of hot dogs, cakes and
drinks.
Carrie Calhoun, Junior
Director, said, “We had a great
time. It was hard work; but our
club children are enthusiastic
about helping their community.
We are one of the nearly 800
youth service clubs doing these
types of projects to benefit a
need.”
The Youth Service Clubs have
finished 53 years of service.
County building permits
are down during first
three months of 1997
Building permits for 145 single
family dwellings were issued dur
ing the first three months of the
year for unincorporated Houston
County, according to officials.
That is down from 200 for the
same time one year ago.
For the city of Perry during
those three months three permits
were issued.
Seven were issued for
Centerville during the same time
period.
That results in a total number
of 227 countywide.
Perry was issued three mobile
home permits, Warner Robins had
17 and Centerville had four issued
during January, February and
March.
Unincorporated areas had 78
issued, according to the report.

ing a matching fund yard sale,
auction and bake sale for the ben
efit of the Allen family, on May 3,
8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the National
Guard Armory in Perry.
