Local 4-H’ers take awards at junior, senior DPA
Staff, Community Reports
Senior and Junior 4-Her’s
recently participated at the
District Project Achievement held
at the Rock Eagle State 4-H
Center at Eatonton.
Houston Countian Lindsey
Etheridge will be participating at
State Congress in Veterinary
Science in the near future.
Erika Ludwig placed first in
the Arts and Crafts Project.
Other members competing
were: Kathy James, Safety;
Rakesh Parekh, Performing Arts
Instrumental; Amber Peters, Arts
and Crafts and April Holloway,
Public Speaking.
Goat production meeting
is April 29 in Perry
The Houston County
Extension Service will sponsor a
Goat Production meeting April 29
at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held
at the Houston County
Agricultural Building at 733
Carroll St/ in Perry.
Anyone interested in goat pro
duction in Houston County and
surrounding counties is welcome
to attend. For more information
contact the Extension office at

Gonzalez visits Indiana
for missions project
Joaquin Gonzalez of Perry
traveled with a group of 17 stu
dents from Brewton-Parker
College Baptist Student Union to
a missions trip at Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Also in the group was Campus
Minister A1 Rahn.
Linemans rodeo is April
26 at Fairgrounds
Some 52 teams from all over
the Southeast will be in Perry on
April 26 to compete in the 1997
Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter.
The annual event will feature
17 electric membership corpora
tions, 11 municipalities, and 24
investor owned utility companies.
This year, Flint EMC will have
two teams participating.
During the competition, the
teams will demonstrate the skills
they use everyday while perform
ing their jobs. The rodeo, which
features the best of the best,
emphasizes safety, team work,
and job knowledge.

Friends of the Library will hold an
Old Book Sale at Houston Mall
beginning at 6 p.m. April 24 and
ending 5 p.m. April 25. There will
be more than 20,000 books of all
categories available.
Perryans take part in
Little Theater play
WARNER ROBINS Two
Perry residents, Rosa Mae Smith
and Anita Williams, will be part of
the cast of upcoming perfor
mances of The Trip to Bountiful
May 1 through May 4 and May 7
through May 10.
The play will be presented by
Warner Robins Little Theatre. The
playhouse is located at 502 S.
Pleasant Hill Road, Warner
Robins.
Evening performances are at
8:00 p.m., Sunday matinee is at
2:30 p.m.

National Fairgrounds at Perry April
14 for a company Driver Jamboree.

came from eight area concrete
plants from Bolingbroke to Tifton.
The purpose of the driver jam
boree is to educate, promote and
reward the drivers for safety,

cleanliness, operational vehicle
safety features and general condi
tions. Dirvers and plant managers
are trained in maintenance
upkeep, quality control and safety.

A quality control demonstration
was held with one truck being
fully loaded with eight yards of
concrete. Each driver inspected
the load for slump accuracy,
which is the stiffness and condi
tion of the concrete in the wet
stage, and a reward was given to

each driver who accurately
recorded the exact slump.
Driver training and safety pro
cedures highlighted the program.
A safety video and general safety
meeting was held in the
Roquemore Conference Center
with Paul Dean, safety director of
The Concrete Company.
Safety awards and company
jackets were presented to drivers
who had driven a year with no
accidents.
Frank Foley, president, and
Hugh Sorrell, vice president,
attended the sessions.
The Concrete Company is
