Contestants sought for Miss Georgia Peach

FORT VALLEY—The Miss Georgia Peach
pageant, a sanctioned event sponsored by the
Georgia Peach Festival, will be held May 17 at
the Pettigrew Center of the Fort Valley State
University in Fort Valley.
Competition will be open by age division.
Those 4-7 will compete for the Little Miss
Georgia Peach crown. Girls ages 8-11 will vie
for the Junior Miss Georgia Peach title.
Those 12-15 will seek the Teen Miss
Georgia Peach title while the Miss Georgia
Peach category is open to contestants 16-20
Middle School
students
have Earth Week
celebration
From Staff Reports
Students at Perry Middle
School are supporting the 26th
annual observance of Earth Week
with special activities.
The students are combining
the Earth Week activities with
celebration of National Science
and Technology Week and
National Wildlife Week.
Activities are sponsored by the
Middle School Science Club.
An Earth Fair will be held
3:30-7 p.m. April 23 at the
Middle School ball field off
James Street.
Activities will include some
animals, a dunking booth, pie in
the tace, a putting game, face
painting, a T-shirt sale, a fossil
dig, and a variety of activities at
booths sponsored by groups at the
school.
Other activities include a visit
to the school by Tony Fox, a
Department of Natural Resources
ranger who will talk about endan
gered species; Willie Thornton,
supervisor of the Department of
Sanitation for the city of Perry;
and Faye Allen and Tim Luke,
both Georgia Forestry
Commission employees, who will
talk about the importance of trees
to the environment and will dis
tribute seedlings to the sixth
graders.
Allen and Luke will also pro
vide a tree for a raffle at the Earth
Fair.
Bishop named
Synovus All-Star

COLUMBUS Gary Bishop,
the president and chief executive
officer of CB&T Bank of Middle
Georgia, has been named a 1996
Synovus All-Star by James H.
Blanchard, chairman of the
Synovus Financial Corp.
Bishop was one of 33 recipi
ents of the award, according to
Jeanie Davis, a bank spokesman.
Synovusßs All-Stars are lead
ers who consistently achieve
excellence through exemplary
accomplishments, Blanchard said.
Those areas include people poli
cies, customer service strategies,
quality results, vision and strate
gic planning, leadership and cor
porate financial performance.
Bishop, a resident of the Perry
area, has been associated with the
CB&T entry in the middle
Georgia market for several years.
He is an active member of the
Perry Rotary Club and is a gradu
ate of Florida State University.

the highest ideals of quality and
excellence. The 1996 All-Stars’
performance and commitment
have contributed greatly to the

said.

Rules indicate all contestants will compete
in gown and sportswear categories. The Teen
Miss Georgia Peach and Miss Georgia Peach
contestants will also participate in an interview
to be held May 17 at 10 a.m.
Miss Georgia Peach contestants will also
face questions on stage during the competition.
All contestants will be judged on poise, per
sonality, beauty and projections. Judges will be
Miss Georgia Preliminary certified judges
from other parts of Georgia.

The entry fee for all categories is $45 per
contestant For families with more than one
participant, the fee drops to $25.
Queens will become official ambassadors
for the Georgia Peach Festival, June 20-22 and
will make appearances during the festival.
