Obituaries
Richard John Perkins
Services for Richard John
Perkins, 84, who died April 22,
1997, were held at graveside April
23 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Dr.
John Yarbrough officiating.
A native of Enola, N.C., he had
resided in Perry since 1954. He
was a Captain in the Army during
WWII, retired from Procurement
office at Robins Air Force Base.
He was preceded in death in Jan.
1997 by his wife, Katherine Irby
Perkins. He was a Mason, a
Shriner, and a member of the First
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daugh
ters, Pamela Perkins Drews of
Tucker and Deborah Jones White
of Atlanta; son, Richard Perkins of
Santa Fe, N.M.; sister, Veronica
Baldwin of Asheville, N.C.; and
seven grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials
to Alzheimer’s Association.,

Grover Henry Bonner
Services for Grover Henry
Bonner, 72, who died April 26,
1997, were held at Watson-Hunt
Chapel April 27 with the Rev. Jack
Atkinson officiating. Burial was
private.
A native of Roanoke, Ala., he

ence in the Perry High
Auditorium, judges selected
Christy Danielle Fowler from a
field of 12 contestants to reign as
Miss Perry High for 1997-98.
Fowler, a junior honors student,
is the daughter of Bobby and
Cathy Fowler of Hayneville.
Sponsors for Fowler include:
Chancy Automotive, PHS Varsity
Softball, PHS Varsity
Cheerleaders and PHS F.F.A.
In addition to the title and
crown, Fowler received a SSOO
scholarship plus an additional
SIOO award for winning the
Casual Sportswear Competition.
Molly Tripp, daughter of the
Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Marcus Tripp,
was named First Runner-Up and
received scholarship awards for
being selected Miss Congeniality
and for the Interview Competition.
Coretta Fells, daughter of Cora
Fells, was named Second Runner-
Up and received a scholarship
award for Onstage Interview
Competition.
Allyson Barrett, daughter of
Mike and Sharon Lee received
scholarship awards for Evening
Gown Competition and Talent
Competition.
Other contestants included:
Michelle Allen, daughter of Jim
and Von Allen: Laquanda Brooks,
daughter of Deborah Brooks;
Cassie McKinney, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Jackson; Keri
Eckhardt, daughter of Bob and
Wanda Eckhardt; Marina Culley,
daughter of Paul and Lucy Hicks;
Allison Alford, daughter of
Bob and Linda Alford; Shannon
Lanier, daughter of Randy and Di
Lanier; and Heather Meyer,
daughter of James and Judy
Drummond.
Christy Fowler is planning to
attend the University of Georgia

A participating member of Secure Health Plan
had resided in Eatonton for five
years moving from Perry. He was
a retired policeman from Robins
Air Force Base, a WWII Navy
Veteran and a Methodist.
Survivors include daughter,
Tammy Butts of Warner Robins;
sons, Bobby Bonner of Macon and
Mike Bonner of Atlanta; sister,
Betty Lucas of Warner Robins; six
grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.

Anne Salter Woods
. Services for Anne Salter
Woods, 73, who died April 27,
1997, will be held at graveside at
2:00 p.m. April 30 at Perry
Memorial Gardens.
She was a native of Waycross
and had lived in Waycross until
she married and moved to Perry.
She was secretary for the City of
Waycross when she lived there.
She was a member of Perry
First Presbyterian Church and was
active in church until her illness
and also active in the choir. She
was a member of the Sorrell Club
in Perry. She was the daughter of
the late Hugh Salter and Nellie
Haynes Salter. Her husband was
the late John C. Woods of Perry.
and her career goal is a career in
Anesthesiology.
Fowler participates in many
activities at PHS and has been
selected to attend Governor’s
Honors Program at Valdosta State
University this summer in the area
of science.

Ben Roberts Jr.
Services for Ben Roberts Jr.
will be held May 2, 1997 at 4:30
p.m. at the New Hope Baptist
Church with burial following in
the Evergreen Cemetery, Perry.
He was a native of Houston
County, attended the public
schools of Houston and graduated
with the Class of 1977 at Perry
High School. He was self
employed.
Survivors include is parents,
Mr. Ben and Mrs. Ruth Roberts of
Perry; daughter, Ashley Roberts of
Perry; brothers and sisters, Jackie
Bryant of Columbus, Annette
Traynham of Houston, Texas,
Bonita Jackson of San Antonio,
Texas, Deborah Roker of New
York, Belinda Spellman of
Savannah, Bennie Marshall and
pageant was an original skit high
lighting her singing, acting and
communication skills.
Entertainment for the pageant
included Dr. Don Hutchison!

Matthews, Maggie Correll and
Andrea Kirk, Miss .Middle

p.m. April 30 at Watson-Hunt

A native of Orlando, Fla., she
had resided in Perry for many
years before moving to Conyers in
1992. She was a graduate of
Warner Robins High School and
Navy veteran, a clerk with AT&T
and an LPN (attended nurses
school at Medical Center of
