The Perry Recreation
Department is offering anew
Clogging class which will begin
May 1 at 6:30 p.m. This 10-week
session program is for youth ages
4-12 years. Prior registration is
required. Session fee is $lO.
The Farm City Flatfooters
Clogging Club meet following
classes. Register at the Perry
Recreation Department located at

Police chase follows seat belt checkup
From Staff Reports
What began as a routine traffic stop for a seat belt
violation turned into a chase that took a Georgia State
Patrolman on a circuitous route about Perry April 25.
According to GSP spokesman Wayne Wiley,
Trooper Wynn Gregory attempted to stop 30-year-old
Keith Belvin of Montezuma for a seat belt violation
while traveling along Interstate 75.
The subject did not stop and exited the interstate at
Exit 43, with Gregory in pursuit.

Georgia Peach pageant, which a a
sanctioned event sponsored by the
Georgia Peach Festival, will be
held May 17 at 7:30 p.m., at the
C.W. Pettigrew Center at Fort
Valley State University. Practice
will be held at the Pettigrew
Center on May 16.
Secretaries’ luncheon draws record crowd

A record number of secretaries
and their bosses turned out for the
1997 Chamber of Commerce
Secretary’s Luncheon held at
Houston Lake Country Club April
23.
The group listened as guest
speakers Jami Gaudet and Joseph
Johnson spoke of interesting items
to be seen at the Georgia Music
Hall ot Fame located in Macon.
Gaudet, public relations director
for the Hall of Fame, said the facil
ity is “quite a remarkable place.”
“You cannot categorize Georgia
music..lt is a rich musical mixture
of personalities and music,” she
added.
Nearly 400 musical artists are
now represented at the Hall of
Fame, said Gaudet.
Hall of Fame curator Joseph
Johnson pointed out that Georgia
music is listened to and appreciated
world-wide.
“Europeans know and love
Georgia music,” said Johnson,
adding that visitors from 49 states
and numerous countries, have
enjoyed the Hall of Fame since its
debut in 1979.

were thrown at intervals from the car, said Wiley.
After circling the parking lot of Perry Marketplace
several times, Belvin headed toward Martin Luther
King Jr. Road, said Wiley, traveling out of town.
Belvin apparently lost control of the Oldsmobile
he was driving and wrecked along Elko Road.
No injuries were reported in that accident.
Belvin has been charged with numerous counts of
traffic violations along with possession of maijuana,
said Wiley.
