Mattie Gray Sinyard
Services for Mattie Gray
Sinyard, 100, who died June 1,
1997, were held June 3 at County
Line Baptist Church in Unadilla
with burial in Browndale
Cemetery, Pulaski County.
A native of Hall County she
was the daughter of the late
William Wallace and Mary
Elizabeth Holcolmb Gray and the
widow of Samuel Mint Sinyard.
She was a member of County Line
Baptist Church. She lived most of
her life in Hawkinsville.
She is survived by several
nieces and nephews.

Virlyn G. Wells
Services for Virlyn G. Wells,
90, who died May 30, 1997, were
held June 2 at graveside at
Oaklawn Cemetery, Fort Valley.
Bom in Fort Valley, she was
retired manager of the selective
service board in Fort Valley. She
was the widow of Warner Wells.
Survivors include three sisters,
Annalle Brown of Clearwater,

Twenty-eight students walked
the aisle for their high school diplo
mas at The Westfield Schools May
30.
Graduation ceremonies includ
ed a welcome by Draper Watson,
board of trustees chairman for the
school.
“There are three points I want to
make to you tonight,” said Watson.
Those were be true to your
school, be true to your parents and
family and be true to your God, he
said.
“God wants each of you to suc
ceed,” added Watson.
“As we enter our future we can
be thankful for the foundation we
received at Westfield,” said saluta
torian Mary Katherine Walker.
“Together our class has celebrated
many successes.”
“We are at that point in our lives
where we leave childish things
behind and adulthood begins,”
valedictorian Russell Dean told his
fellow graduates. “We have spent
the first 18 years of our lives trying
to figure this world out.”
A musical prelude was present
ed by Pat McCall, violinist, Alice
Ridgeway, pianist, David Klee,
flutist and Marilyn Hooten, pianist.
Diplomas were awarded by
Watson and headmaster Michael
Drake.

for 30 years. He was a Baptist.

June 21 Cajun picnic to raise funds
for American Heart Association

A south Houston County man,
Ernest Pichon, is busy putting plans
together for a Cajun Picnic benefit
to be held at his home June 21.
The proceeds will go to the
American Heart Association.
What made Pichon, a native of
Louisiana, now employee of
Northrop Grumman in Perry,
decide to do this?
“About a year ago I had a mild
heart attack. I have always wanted
to have a big cajun picnic, anyway,
so I decided to do this to help the
American Heart Association,” said
Pichon.
There will be lots of cajun food,

Z. Herndon, 94, who died May 31,

Memorial Gardens.
Bom in Oshkosh, Wis., she
lived in Perry for 55 years, having
moved from Augusta. She was a
homemaker and the widow of
Harry A. Herndon. She was a
member of Perry United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter,
Joan Herndon Ogletree of Perry
and Peggy Mitchel Herndon of
Fort Royal, Va.; brother, Elbom
Ziebell of Traverse City, Mich.;
seven grandchildren; 13 great
grandchildren; and a great great
grandchild.
Donations may be made to the
Perry United Methodist Church
Choir, Perry 31069, to the Church
including live crawfish boil and a
Mardi Gras Parade, said Pichon.
“People need to bring their
chairs, blankets, fishing poles and
other stuff for an afternoon of
fun!” he added.
A pond on Pichon’s property
will be open for fishing. Kids will
be allowed to fish only with adult
supervision, he said.
“And, we will have a pond
patrol to help keep an eye on the
children,” said Pichon.
Pichon is asking area business
es to help sponsor the event. Any
business who becomes a sponsor
will be able to have a sign with
their name located on Pichon’s
property the day of the picnic, he
