Parenting Under Stress
The parenting under stress training course is being
offered to mothers and fathers who are in need of
support and education for dealing with life stresses
that affect their parenting. Group sessions are used
to help parents gain useful information and support
from their peers. The parenting groups will meet
for two hours once per week for eight weeks Each
session will be divided into two parts. The first
half of the session will be focused on the
discussion of a topic or activity. Duong the second
half of the session, the focus will be outlie parents
sharing personal issues and receiving support and
feedback.
Sessions wili begin:

October 21 - December 9

Nutrition Class
Taught by a registered dietician, this class is
designed for persons who have been diagnosed
recently with diabetes or are interested in nutrition

Community CPR
Learn how to recognize a heart attack and how to
perform American Heart Association CPR and
the choking maneuver. Class sire is limited; pre
registration is required. Call 923-9771. All
participants will receive American Heart Course
C Certification.

Positive Pregnancy
A series of five classes, taught by a registered nurst
spec lalizing in labor and delivery, for the
expectant mom. Topics discussed include diet,
body changes, labor and delivery, care of the
newborn, parenting and safety. Participants
attending all five classes will receive an infant car
seat and other newborn products These classes are
also taught in Spanish. Pre-registration is required.

Great Expectations Prepared
Childbirth Series
These classes, taught by certified childbirth
instructors, are designed to inform and educate the
expectant family in the birthing process so that
they may make informed decisions about their bird
experience. Topics covered include the anatomy of
the reproductive system, diet, stages of labor, the
birth process, cesarean sections, epidurals and basil
baby care. These classes are held for five
consecutive weeks (one night per week) and
participants are encouraged to dress comfortable
and bring two pillows and a blanket to class.
Participants attending all five classes will receive
an infant car seat and other newborn products. For

Sibling Class - Big Brother Big Sister
This class is an exciting way for children to
prepare for the arrival of anew baby into the
family. The scene is the same as a child’s party
The children’s attention span is short and the
activities provided are fast paced, organized and
above all, fun! The class includes a video, a tour
of Special Delivery, discussion, storytelling and
refreshments. In addition, a photograph is taken
of each child and placed on the baby’s bassinet
upon the birth of the new baby. Children are also
given a bag of goodies and a certificate at the
completion of the tour These classes are offered
for children 3 to 10 years of age. Parents are
required to stay with their children during class.

Breastfeeding Class
This special class, taught by our certified lactation
consultants, is designed for the mother (and
her partner) who has chosen to breastfeed her new
baby. We focus on breastfeeding techniques,
helpful hints and answers to questions to help the
new mother get off to the best possible start in
breastfeeding. The “joy of breastfeeding can be
one of life’s most rewarding experiences." To be
able to assist in a mother’s success is one of ours.

Infant CPR and Safety Course
This three hour class, taught by a certified BCLS
(Basic Cardiac Life Support) instructor, teaches
infant CPR, assessing the newborn and making
your home a safe environment for your family In
addition to information and skills, you will gain
the confidence necessary to act promptly and
appropriately in critical situations. Expectant
parents, experienced parents and grandparents are

Early Pregnancy Class
This class encourages and fosters a positive and
healthy approach to pregnancy. It is designed to
educate mothers about nutritional needs during
pregnancy, danger signs and premature labor;
pelvic exercises and relaxation techniques: what
to expect and what to do to reduce the minor
discomforts of pregnancy, as well as information
about diagnostic testing for you and your baby.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable
clothing (preferably slacks), bring a pillow and
a sense of humor!
