Walker calls for greater
community relations
By EMILY JOHNSTONE
Times-Journal Staff
A crowd of about 200 Perryans
turned out for the annual
Citywide Neighborhood Watch
meeting held at J. Frank Rozar
Park June 26.
Guest speaker Rep. Larry
Walker, D-Perry, told the group
he believes it takeka family and a
village to raise children.
“Families are under attack and
under stress like never before,”
said Walker.
This means neighborhoods
must come together to protect
and strengthen that family unit,
he added.
Walker encouraged Perryans
to “work on racial relations in the
community.”
“We need to be building
branches between the races," said
Walker. “We can be an example
of that here in the city of Perry.”
He quoted a biblical verse,
“Love your neighbor as you love
yourself’.
“That is what you do with your
neighborhood watch,” said
Walker.
