Perryan killed in
motorcycle wreck
From Staff Reports
A 29-year-old Perry woman
was fatally injured in a motorcy
cle accident that occurred the
afternoon of June 29 along
Houston Lake Road, according to
Houston County Sheriff’s
Department Lt. Charles Holt.
Holt said Tammy Hammock
Padgett, a passenger on the
motorcycle, died from injuries she
received when the 1993 Harley
Davidson driven by 29-year-old
Michael Flynn, also a Perry resi
dent, hit the back of a pick-up
truck.
Flynn and Padgett were travel
ing behind the truck, said Holt,
when “the truck slowed down to
make a left turn. For some reason
the motorcycle did not slow down
and they struck the back of the
truck.”
Albert Simon, of Arena Road,
driver of the pick-up, has been
charged with driving under the
influence. Holt said Simon did not
contribute to the accident.
No charges are pending against
Flynn, who remains in critical
condition at Houston Medical
Center, according to reports.
Sgt. Joe Sendek is handling
investigations, said Holt.
Farm credit co-op
returns earnings
to borrowers
Special to The Times-Journal
William Brown, chairman of
the board of directors of South
Central Farm Credit, ACA,
announced that many of SCFC’s
member/borrowers received spe
cial refund checks of allocated
surpluses in addition to those
1996 patronage refund checks
received in April of this year.
Brown noted said the later
checks, totaling over $4.9 million,
were paid to borrowers who did
business with South Central Farm
Credit in 1992.
When the 1992 patronage
refund was declared in 1993, 30
percent of the 1992 patronage was
paid in cash, and the balance was
placed in allocated surplus
accounts in the names of each
individual member/borrower. The
checks issued last month repre
sent a refund of 50 percent of the
1992 allocated surplus account.
The other 50 percent was paid in
checks sent to members in June
1996.
According to Dennis Waldrep,
president of the Association, this
is the sixth consecutive year the
Association has “revolved” allo
cated surplus, since it began issu
ing patronage refunds in 1988.
Waldrep stated that “Over the
past nine years, patronage issued
to the co-ops owner/borrowers
represents more than one-third of
the interest paid on their loans.
That is a record any co-op would
be proud to report. Our goal is to
remain financially strong, so we
can continue revolving surplus in
a timely manner.”
South Central Farm Credit,
ACA, is a farmer-owned credit
cooperative, which makes
longterm farm and country home
loans, intermediate-term loans for
machinery, equipment, and build
ings and short-term production
loans. Credit life insurance, crop
insurance, appraisal and leasing
services are also available through
South Central Farm Credit.
The Association serves more
than 3,500 borrowers through
offices located in Dublin,
Cordele, Hawkinsville, Moultrie,
Nashville, Ocilla, Perry, Quitman,
Sandersville, Sylvester,
Waynesboro and Tifton. It had
over $287 million in loans out
standing as of March 31, 1997.
