Sophia Rose Brantley
Services for Sophia Rose
Brantley, the infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Brantley of
Perry, will be held at graveside
July 11, 1997 at 10 a.m. at Perry
Memorial Gardens with the Rev.
Dr. John Yarbrough officiating.
Visitation will take place July
10 at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home
from 7-8:30 p.m.
Survivors other than parents
include her sisters, Alexandria
Brantley, Victoria Brantley and
Cynthia Brantley, all of Perry;
paternal grandparents, Mr. and

Hayneville Baptist Church and Hayneville F
& A F Lodge Hall #45 suffered break-ins on
July 1. Entry had been made to both buildings;
however nothing seemed to be missing from
the church.
Two office chairs with rollers were taken
from the lodge, said Dave Daughtry, chairman
of the deacons at the church.
Daughtry said the deacons discovered the
damage to the church about 10:15 a.m., July 2.

was killed during an auto accident
in Florida during the July 4th hol
iday weekend.
That was after the youngster
apparently ran away from home in
his dad’s pick-up truck on July 4,

scholastic achievement for the spring quarter.

CHECK 'EM OUT Members of the Perry Police Department, along with seven other law enforce
ment agencies, held a marathon afternoon of roadblocks July 2 to check for drugs and other viola
tions. According to Police Chief George Potter, the roadblocks resulted in 40 cases filed in various traf
fic violations. No drugs were found during the afternoon check, but Potter said he was pleased with
the results and that roadblocks will continue as an anti-drug strategy in the Perry community. Other
participating agencies included the Houston County Sheriff's Department, Peach County Sheriff's
Department, Twiggs County Sheriff's Department, Crawford County Sheriff's Department, Bibb County
Sheriff's Department, Warner Robins Police Department and the Department of Transportation
enforcement division.

Mamie Lucille Patrick
Services for Mamie Lucille
Patrick, 77, who died June 30,
1997, were held at graveside July
2 at Meriwether Memory Gardens
with John Larchowski officiating.
Bom Nov. 1, 1919, in Newton
County, she was the daughter of
the late Jordan Will Passmore and
ed to gain entry through other doors before
kicking in the back door of the church.
Footprints on other doors were visible.
Footprints and tire tracks on the grounds were
quite evident upon inspection, Daughtry said.
The lodge door’s lock was broken and an
upper window broken. The two office chairs were
all that seemed to have been damaged or missing.
Deacon Roberson Duhart said, “Two men
from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office
came (upon receiving the break-in report) and:
Sgt A. K. Everidge, Investigator, was one of
them.” Pictures were made of the door damage,
according to Sgt. Tim Jenkins of
the Houston County Juvenile
Division of the Sheriff’s
Department.
Jenkins said Timothy Walmer
took a pick-up belonging to his
father and. along with another
Houston County juvenile and an
18-year-old from Alma, traveled
and James M. Wood Jr., all of Bonaire, were
also named to the dean’s list.
Recognized for spring quarter honors from
Centerville were Suzanne Mary Molesky,
Cheryl Lynn Denham and Laura Layne
Chapman.
Marlena H. Waddell of Dublin; Nicole
Dyan Peterman of Kathleen; and Andrea
Nicole Kirk of Perry were also named to the
Dean’s List.

was a homemaker and was a mem
ber of the Manchester Church of
Christ.
Survivors include son, Craig
Allen Patrick of Columbus;
daughters, Mrs. Evangeline P.
Rodgers of Perry and Mrs. Hettie
Burgess of Fort Lawry, S.C.; sis
ter, Mrs. Janet Etheridge of
Marietta; seven grandchildren and
two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, John Henry Patrick
and two sons Spencer Patrick and
Johnny Patrick.

The 18-year-old, James
Branch, was driving along 1-75 at
approximately 7:55 a.m. July 5
about 6 miles west of Jasper, Fla.,
when he apparently lost control of
the vehicle, said Jenkins.

Kathleen G. Candler, 87, who died
July 1, 1997, were held July 3 at
First United Methodist Church of
Villa Rica, with the Rev. Sidney
Tate officiating. Burial was at
Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter Pace,
Tom Large, Jack Waldrop, Jack
White, R.H. Burson, Barney
Byram, James A. Phagan, J.W.
Swanson and Lewis Miller.

the damaged church door, repaired it, installed
anew lock and replaced the door.
Earl Rawls, Worshipful Master of
Hayneville F & A F Lodge #45, reported the
incidents.
Rawls said, “Tracks show that the vehicle
seemed to be dragging something and that pos
sible scuffling took place on the tall grass near
the lodge.”
Investigation by personnel from the
Houston County Sheriff Office is continuing.

injuries and the other juvenile, a
15-year-old female, is now back
home, said Jenkins.

has charged Branch with careless
driving, Jenkins added.

Floyd U.M.W. Circle served as an
honorary group.
Mrs. Candler was bom in
Lincoln County on June 13, 1910,
the daughter of the late Samuel
Gresham and the late Kate Clary
Gresham. She married her child
hood sweetheart, Edgar Pierce
Candler, and in 1942 they moved
from Cornelia to Villa Rica where
they owned and operated Villa Rica
Pharmacy for more than 50 years.
She was a very active member
of the First United Methodist
Church of Villa Rica, the Mary
Martha Sunday School Class,
Lola Floyd United Methodist
Women’s Circle, and had served
on the administrative board. She
was a member of the Villa Rica
Garden Club, was active in the
Villa Rica P.T. A. for many years, a
