fast at the location for some time.
Later, they felt a calling to use the
structure differently.
That was when the idea of
offering a place for personal
retreat for missionaries, ministers
and others who had need of such a
place, Vines said.
“We will be forever indebted to
folks who helped and to those
who will use this place,” Sam
Vines said. “The sacrifice of
workers, some working pretty
much every day since January,
while holding down a full-time
job, was tremendous.”
Some, helpers mentioned were
Dianne Belcher, Gene Ham,
Felicia and Buddy Sheffield, Ted
Leidle and Chris Miller.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony
was witnessed by about 50 people
who heard the Rev. Mark Ward,
Assistant Pastor of First Baptist
Church, offer the dedicatory mes
sage and prayer.
Ward quoted from Joshua
23:15 “As for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord.”
“The Vines’ dreams and words
have been put to action, with help
from friends and family mem
bers,” Ward told those gathered.
“All of you who have reached out
and helped them, you too, are
serving the Lord through this
retreat ministry.
“It is special. They talked about
it and put it into action. It is a
house that will be a great blessing
to all,” Ward added.
Ward talked about applying the
message of Matthew 25:34-39, of
doing things for the least of those
who live, and by serving God
through that effort.
Ward’s prayer reminded God
that the Vines had had a vision
a dream, where those present were
standing, was a place where God
would be glorified. He offered
thanks for all who helped with this
house and for all would use it. He
prayed that some who would stay
in this house might come to know
the Lord and that God be glori
fied. “We give it to You in a
mighty way,” he added.
A fellowship hour and inspec
tion tour of the house and the
swimming pool area followed.
Chris Vines teaches swimming to
adult ladies year around, and
youths during the summer.
This house is a place where
ministers, missionaries, church
couples, and others may enjoy for a
needed retreat. Reservations must
be made by calling 987-8092.
Donations to the guest house
and grounds maintenance may be
made to New Hope Guest House
Ministry, 115 Thunder Road,
Hawkinsville, Ga. 31036.
