2,741 would cram the old ballpark
in anticipation of yet another last
place finish by their beloved
Bravos. It was kind of nice actual
ly. You didn’t have to scream for a
hot dog heck there were more
vendors than customers. You did
n’t have to scramble for a foul ball
because by the end of the game,
there were plenty of foul balls for
everybody.
They even tried gimmicks like
performing marriages at home
plate before games, high wire acts
above the stadium during the
game, and Beach Boy concerts
after the game in desperate
attempts to fill the stands. But
nothing ever really worked
because I remember back in the
early ’Bos when they had fan
appreciation night and some lucky
fan would win anew car. Sure
enough, the winning family came

Steve Engle, management ser
vices director for Houston
County, said this is a one-year
contract.
Commissioners approved pay
ing $50,000 to the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers to do a study
dealing with a wastewater man
agement plan for the county.
According to a draft of the study,
there swill be four major areas
examined. They include Sandy Run
Creek, Big Indian Creek, Mossy
Creek, and Bay Gall Creek.
“One goal of the proposed
study is to provide feasible solu
tions and flood relief for areas
which are susceptible to having
stormwater inside buildings or
which are made inaccessible due
to flooded roadways,” according
to the draft.
In another action, commission
ers voted to submit an application
to the Bureau of Justice
Assistance for a $52,412 grant in
federal funds, that requires a
$6,544 local match.
An advisory board has recom
mended that the funds be used to
purchase two patrol cars and
related equipment for the sheriff’s
department.
Speaking of vehicles for that
department, a bid of $109,164
submitted by Wayne Morris Ford
of Perry for six automobiles was
approved.
“Since that bid came within 3
percent of the lowest bid, we
accepted it,’’explained Tom
McMichael.
The county has a policy that
allows that amount of leeway if
one bid is local and another from
outside of Houston County.

But even as bad as it was (and
trust me, it was bad), I still have a

Every once in a while, when the
