Indian flutes on program at Perry Library Aug. 12

Dan Bray, local Perry artist of
Eastern Lower Creek lineage, will
demonstrate how he makes and
plays love flutes and hand drums,
at Perry Public Library on Aug. 12
at 10 a.m.
This program is part of the
Library’s Summer Reading Club,
“Follow the Reading Trail”.
Bray is employed by Houston
County Corrections, and teaches
martial arts in Perry. In his
brochure, he states that he “...has
always held the Indian traditions at
heart.”
Taught by his father, Bray uses
eastern red cedar for the flutes and
drum rims, and he carefully selects
and processes deer hides for the
drums.
The program is free and will be
of Interest to adults as well as to
children.
The Perry Library is located at

for Houston County, planned the
program.

Phi, the Macon State College
chapter of international student
honor society Phi Theta Kappa.
Students earning a 3.5 cumula
tive grade point average or better
after at least 30 hours of academic
course work at Macon State
College are for member

Phi induction took place in March.

The Houston County Extension
Service will hold its monthly ag
meeting Aug. 7 at 7 a.m. at the Ag
Building, 733 Carroll St., Perry.
Dr. Mike Bader of the
University of Georgia will give an
update on peanut harvesting.
The public is invited to attend.
Meadowdale Learning
Center receives mini grant
Meadowdale Leaning Center
has been awarded a SI,OOO mini
grant from the Georgia School
Age Care Association for outdoor
equipment as a part of their
Playground Enhancement
Program.
Meadowdale Learning Center
was one of the 100 organizations
which received funds through
Quality Mini-Grants funded by the
Child Care Development Block
Grant which is administered by the
Georgia Child Care Council.
“Our Playground Enhance
ment Program is scheduled to be

completed the first of
September,” said Donna
Williams, the center owner. The
new playground enhancement
plan will include a sand and
waterfall play station, a playshell
climber, an outdoor tic-tac-toe
game and paint shop/art easel,
and a trike track complete with
road signs.
“Meadowdale Learning
Center’s program continues to
strive for new and improved ser
vices that help meet parents’ need
for a safe, nurturing environment
for their children,” said Williams.
“Certainly, parents want their
children to be safe and supervised
but we also provide a variety of
activities that contribute to the
child’s emotional, physical and
social development.”
The Georgia School Age Care
Association is a statewide, non
profit organization dedicated to
improving out-of-school care for
Georgia’s children and youth.
