PERRY HIGH STUDENT PLACES IN WIRING CONTESTS Josrmh
Smith (left) of the Perry High School FFA Chapter competed in me
Area 111 FFA/EMC Electrical Wiring Contest held recently at Camp
John Hope near Fort Valiev. Smitn competed against FFA students
from hign schools in central and west Georgia. Tne wiring contest is
a cooperative educational effort between the Electric Membership
Corporations of Georgia and the Agricultural Education program of
the Georgia Department of Education. The contest consists of three
parts: a practical wiring problem, a problem-solving exam requiring
the students to interpret the National Electric Code and EMC infor
mation, and a speecn/demonstration activity. Smith finished second
in the Area II contest, and went on to place second in the more com-
Kve state competition held at the FFA camp near Covington. For
■forts, Smith will receive scholarships totaling 5675 to the college
of his choice.He is the son of Luke and Anne Smith of Perry. His par
ticipation in this activity was supported locally by Flint EMC.

WEYERHAEUSER DONATES TO UNITED WAY Weyerhaeuser s
Flint River Operations in Oglethorpe recently announced the results of
their annual United Way Campaign which netted an additional
SIB,OOO to the Houston County drive. Of that amount, 510,380 are
pledges or cash donations from the employee force and another
$7,700 is a corporate gift from The Weyerhaeuser Co. Foundation.
Kent Walker, Weyerhaeuser Vice President and Site Manager, said,
