Turkey shoot raises funds for injured Perry area farmer

Winners of the Perry Middle
School Science Fair and Social
Science Fair were announced last
week The first pn/e winners will
compete in the county-wide lairs
next, and those who win at the county
level will go on to state competition
In the Science Fair, coordinated
by Bill Williford, eight graders

Money to help family of Jerry Pitzer y injured during a fall last month

Even though he could not be in attendance,
thoughts of one Houston County man brought
together a large number of folks Valentine’s
Day to participate in a fund-raising turkey and
skeet shoot held in a field located on the Sam
Nunn Farm
This man is Jerry Pitzer. a south Houston
County farmer who was injured during a tall
last month
Pil/er is now hospitalized at Shepherd
Spinal Center in Atlanta and doctors say he
will be there at least eight to 10 weeks, under
going surgery and rehabilitation.
Pitzer s brother. Lucky Pil/er. said he was
glad to see so many people come out to show
of Student Activities, said in her
letter to the Southeast/South
Regional Association of
Academic Affairs
Administrators (ACAFAD)
Calling Arrington a

Previously. Amngton taught
business education at Union High
School in leslie. from 1967-69
While there she was named STAR
Teacher tor Sumter County She
then moved back to Wheeler
County to teach business educa
tion at her alma mater where she
also started a Vocational Office
Training Program During her
three years at Wheeler County
High, she again was named a
STAR Teacher
She was a member of the
Westfield Schools faculty tor
two years before accepting a
position in the Division of
Economics and Business at what
was then Macon Junior College
Arrington is a professor of Office
Administration and Information
Processing at Macon State She
has a master s degree in business
education from Georgia College
& Stale University and a Ph D
in business education from
Georgia State University
While she enjoyed teaching
high school students. Amngton
said she appreciates the challenges
of administrative and faculty work
in a college environment
Higher education elevates
the quality of individuals, she
said “It is important that we stay
committed to quality education
at all levels ”
The Arringtons have three
children Donny who lives in
Albany. Tim who makes his
home in Perry, and Janet, a resi
dent of Craw ford County and
two grandchildren. 8-year-old
Robby and '-year-old Ansley

the Lord and urged those in atten
dance to look toward spiritual
growth
As a young man. Scott said he
fell the Lord was leading him to
become a preacher, but later
decided that was not the case.

during the shoot, she said
Future fund raisers are already being
planned, added Prickett. including a fishing
tournament and trail ride
And. Jerry Pitzer’s neighbors and friends
arc going to continue to he there for him and
his family, said Prickett
Jerry Pitzer has a wife. Joni, and two daugh
ters. Melissa and Jessica
“We will continue to help the family." said
Prickett. "Just like old times when people were
there for each other."

Before the program, several
serving lines were formed to feed
the crowd.
Flatters and bowls of different
types of wild game, including
quail, rabbit and deer were on the
menu
Members ot the Kehoboth
Baptist Association spent many
hours cooking a tremendous
amount of tood in preparation for
the dinner
The three-hour event also
included music and door pri/es
Local businesses donated numer
ous items for door prize draw ings
