Members of the Perry
Exchange Club recently honored
two students as their Students of
the Year
The honorees. Janet Mims and
Nikctha Owens, were guests of
honor during a luncheon meet
ing
Owens was selected by a fac
ulty committee as an Exchange
Club Student of the Year
Niketha Owens is the daughter
of Linda Owens of Perry A
senior at Perry High School.
Niketha Owens plans to attend
Morris Brown College and major
in criminal justice
Owens has been active in sev
eral organizations at Perry High
including the Prayer Club, Arrive
Alive, Pep Club. Student Council
and the National Honoi Society.
She was involved with the pro
duction of Zenophilia. the stu
dent literary magazine.
A member of the track team
and the cross country team.
Owons was vice president of the
junior class. She is secretary of
the Future Business Leaders of
America. She was nominated as
an FBLA scholarship winner
after participation in the
Employability Skills Contest.
She is secretary of the VIC’A
Club and participates in a student
work program as a waitress at
Cracker Barrel
Owens was selected as an
Upward Bound participant at
Fort Valley Stale University and
received a United Stales
Achievement Academy award
She is a member and serves
Youth Assistant at Spring Creek
Baptist Church in Elko.
Jean Provitt. FBLA advisor at
Perry High School, said of
Owens. "Niketha has scored high
academically and possesses
excellent leadership and organi
zational skills. Niketha is highly
respected among her peers. She
has excellent interpersonal skills
and is highly motivated. If given
an opportunity and the honor to
excel, it is beyond a doubt that
she will do her very best.”
Also honored was Janet
Mims, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George Mims.
According to a school
spokesman, “Janet Mims has an
outgoing personality, loves peo
ple. is very involved, is a leader
among her peers, and should be
very successful in her future.”
Mims, a senior at Perry High,
is active in several school activi
ties. She is vice president of the
senior class and of FBLA.
• She is the treasurer of the
Student Council and is a member
of the National Honor Society.
Recently. Mims participated
in the region and state FBLA
contests and finished Fifth in pub
lic speaking in the region.
She is a member of the
Cooperative Developmental
Energy Program, an organization
for future geologists and engi
