There must oe something in the
water at Perry Country Club. In a
one-week span, three local golfers
aced par-three holes there
Harry Colbert earned his hole
in-one at the 18th hole when his
shot rolled into the cup from 133
yards away. Colbert's weapon of
choice was an 8-iron
Keith Seamon used a 6-iron on
the sth hole and for the 181-yard
hole-in-one It was the first ace for
both golfers.
It wasn't the first time Jimmy
Becland penciled in a "I" on his
scorecard. His latest ace came dur
ing Perry Country Club's Couples
Club Championship Becland used
a 7-iron to reach the elevated green

Perry celebrates National
Fishing
The fish are biting and now is
the time to get geared up for
National Fishing Week. May 30-
June 7.
Over at the Georgia National
Fairgrounds and Agriccnter. they
have opened up one of the ponds
for youth fishing during the entire
month of June. The Agricenter
pond is only open to organized
youth groups, not individuals. For
more information, call Richard
Scuder at 987-3247 to schedule a
time for your youth group.
The City of Perry is also hav
ing a youth fishing event on June
13 at Rozar Park. Call Terry
Lovell at 988-2862 for additional
information on this opportunity.
Anglers around the state arc
encouraged to take a child or a
fnend fishing to "catch a smile"
during National Fishing Week.
"National Fishing Week is
aimed at helping young people
and adults discover the joys of
recreational fishing and develop
an appreciation for Georgia's
lakes, rivers and oceans and the
wildlife that live around them,"
says David Walken. WRD direc
tor.
This year's event is two days
longer than in the past so that
event organizers can take advan
tage of two free fishing days on
Saturday. June 6 and Sunday.
June 7. Georgia residents may
fish anywhere in the state on
those dates without a fishing
license or trout stamp Anglers
may also fish in any of Georgia s
public fishing area without a
wildlife management stamp on
most days.
National Fishing Week was
created to recognize the tradition
of fishing, to broaden the spirit of
togetherness, and to share the val
ues and knowledge of today's

No fishing equipment ’ No
problem Although you may have
passed on an opportunity to fish
in the past because you didn t
have a rod and reel, the excuse is
not valid anymore. About three
years ago. this writer, with the
assistance of the Zebco
Corporation, placed 10 rod and
reel combos in each branch of the
Houston County Library
They can be checked out for
two weeks, just like a hook I call
the program "Fishing: Check it
out!" Anyone with a library card
can check out a rod and reel, but
children must have their parent's
permission.
The rods and reels available at
the library are Zebco 33 closed
spinners, loaded with 10-pound
line They are just right for bream,
catfish, and light bass fishing Put
on a cigar cork, split shot and a
number-6 or 8 hook and you're
ready to fish.
For bream, put a red wiggler
worm or cricket on the hook For
catfish, a Louisiana pink work,
chicken liver or shrimp will do
the trick.
Get out during National
Fishing Week and try your luck
And hey. don't forget to take a
youngster with you' Good lish-
