Tradition of Quality and Service a
sured of Houston County, gave
committee members a brief histo
ry of the proposal.
The proposal includes a possi
ble merger of the county health
department with health care that
would be provided by the clinic.
That would exclude environ
mental health concerns, said
Howell.
The merger makes sense. she
said, because “it is logical for this
public/private partnership to be
developed.”
It will be a help for the clinic to
receive both public and private
funding, she added. This will pro
vide flexible support as funding,
such as government funding,
fluctuates, added Howell.
Asa matter of fact, within a
few years, “the public will need
the private sector,” she said.
The diversity of tpe committee
members’ backgrounds and fields
of expertise will be a plus to the
development of the project, said
Howell.
"This involves a nice, equal
partnership between everyone but
mostly between the hospital, pub
lic health and DFACS,” she told
the group.
Methodist Church to sponsor Habitat House
StArr. Community (Uroirre
Members of Perry United
Methodist Church will celebrate
“Habitat Sunday” June 7.
The church membership has
committed itself to build a
Habitat house in Perry, by raising
the needed money and providing
volunteer labor to as much of the
labor as possible.
Everything will be done in
partnership with Houston County
Habitat for Humanity, said
church pastor, the Rev. Dr.
Marcus Tripp.
The church’s goal for fund
raising on “Habitat Sunday” is
$20,000. The remaining SIO,OOO
is being provided through a grant
obtained by the City of Perry.
Construction is close to begin
ning, and church members have
been signing up for all sorts of con
struction skills, plus the many sup
port services needed, Tripp said.
Habitat is a Christian ministry
to provide safe, affordable hous
ing to persons who have been liv
ing in unhealthy, unsafe condi
tions. Each family selected con
tributes 500 hours of labor on the
house, called “sweat equity."
Then they repay the cost of the
materials, but without interest.
The City of Perry has provided
space for six houses, and Houston
County Habitat hopes to build two
others in addition to the church's
house. That will leave space for
three houses in the future.
Anyone interested in helping
can contact the church at 987-
1852, the City of Perry at 988-
2700, or Habitat Houston County
at .128-3388.

Humanity group at Perry United
