Industries update
Chamber members
Attendees of the May 27 Good
Morning, Perry breakfast spon
sored by the Perry Area Chamber
of Commerce heard updates from
local industry representatives Bill
McKenna of Northrop Grumman
and David Cyr of Parrish, Ga.
The Perry Northrop Grumman
plant, which employs more than
600 people, builds 80 percent of
all doors on Boeing aircraft, said
McKenna.
The company, based in
Hawthorne, Calif., has reported
yearly sales of over one billion dol
lars and employs about 9,000 per
sons around the country, he said.
Northrop Grumman essentially
builds the entire Boeing 747 from
the cockpit through the tail sec
tion, said McKenna.
The Perry plant has been cho
sen to build more than 30 differ
ent type doors, he added.
The quality of the local work
force has been a plus for the facil
ity, he said.
Seventy one percent of
employees at the Perry plant are
residents of Houston County,
while 12 percent come from Bibb
County, seven percent from Peach
and and the remaining 10 percent
come from areas designated as
other, said McKenna.
The plant's challenge for 1998
is to build more than 2,000 doors,
he said. "That means we will
deliver one door every 44 minutes
by October,” said McKenna.
Cyr told a group of listeners
about the success of the company
he represents, Parrish, Ga.
The company originated in
Gainesville, FHa. in 1948, he said,
