Chamber CEO Chris Kinnas. the
Chamber is seeking three people
lo be a part of the trip that is
scheduled to lake place Aug. 3-6.
This comes alter Robins Air
Force Base landed a C-5 aircraft
contract for that facility. Several
hundred workers from Kelly with

ernment agency.
The building projects to he
covered hy the money arc still
several years from completion.
According to Engle, the
Commissioners have not selected
a site for the new courthouse but
are expected to do so within 9()
days.

"The slate of the state is excellent,"
Georgia House of Representatives Majority
Leadei Larry Walker. D-Perry. told mem
bers of the Perry Rotary Club during a June
29 speech.
Walker credited the excellent fiscal shape
of the state to gtwid management by the
General Assembly and Gov. Zell Miller. He
also said because of strong growth, the state
has bcncfittcd.
During Miller’s administration, which
ends this year, the state has been able to
reduce taxes on food and income by about
one billion dollars per year, including more
than $2lO million during the 199 X session.

Walker said he was especially pleased
with an insurance program passed by the
General Assembly this year. Because of this
bill, parents of youths who previously have
not had health insurance will have opportu
nity to purchase coverage at favorable rates.
The coverage is extended lo those fami
lies with an income of less than 532.000 per
year, and for youths ages I-IX who do not
have medical insurance coverage.
Walker said the parents do pay part ol the
premiums for the coverage
He was also pleased with the Heritage
Trust Fund created this year For the next
five years, the state will double the tax rale
on real estate deeds from $1 per SI.OOO of
value to $2 per $1 .(XX) of value.

Money raised from the new tax will be

properties and providing for other historical
efforts in the slate.

many benefits to our communities, and isn’t

Walker said the $ 12.5 billion stale budget
included additional raises for public school
