are published each Wednesday in
the Houston Times-Journal newspa
per, the designated legal organ for
Houston County and the city of
Peiry

Many legal notices are billed at
the rote of >lO per 100 words or
portion thereof for each insertion for
the first four insertions Some specif
ic types of ads, such as divorce, arti
cles of incorporation, articles of
merger, petition to adopt, name
changes and DUI notices have fees
net hosed on the number of times the
notice is inserted All rotes are set by
the Georgio General Assembly
For billing purposes, every word
shall be counted as one word includ
ing words such os the, of, a, etc
Grouped numbers shall be counted
as one word
The deadline for foreclosure notices
and tax sales for disposal Aug 4 is July
6 at noon

Hearings and m—ting
notices There are a wide variety
of public meetings which must be
held in order for a government to
take an action Among the most
common are notices of panning
commission meetings at which
rezoning reauests are to be acted
upon and of hearings when a city or
county government is setting a bud
get or tax rates Sometimes these
notices run as bordered ads on these
pages Sometimes, governments ore
required to publish notices about
upcoming meetings, especially
when a meeting is to be held outside
the regular schedule of that govern
ment or when o change will be
made in the regular time or place of
meeting Most of these notices are
priced by the $lO per 100 words

Estate notices There are
some 20 different type of estate
notices which can be published, the
most common of which is a notice to
creditors to let the court know if a
decauseii peison owes them uny
money Most estate-related notices
come from the county probate
judge's office although some are
filed directly by attorneys Many of
these notices run four times at a cost

Incorporation notice
These are notices concerning a busi
ness which is to be incorporated
with the office located in Houston
County Related incorporation
notices can include an intent to dis
solve a corporate, a name change
of the corporation and mergers of a
corporation These notices typically
run two weeks at a cost of S4O
Notice of elections and ref
erendum* This category covers
a wide range of issues from notices
to hold elections on alcoholic bever
age sales to notices on bond refer
endums to construct school buildings
in Houston County Notices must
also appear concerning city and
county elections when candidates
are seeking elected public office
These notices typically cost $lO per
100 words or fraction thereof
Bid notices When a local
government is going to buy some
thing or have work done on a pro
ject, it is often required to solicit bids
via legal notices A related area of
legal notices involves the sale of sur
plus government-owned equipment,
which also must be listed and pub
lished Bids for road work, school
buildings ond other public property is
included in this category A related
category is sale of items seized by the
local (aw enforcement departments
These ads typically are priced at $ 10
per 100 words or fraction thereof

Typically these notices are published

Driving Under Mie Influence
State law requires publication of
a picture and a brief notice of any
one convicted in Houston County of
a third driving under the influence
charge The fines and related mat
ters of settlement are included The
fee for these ads is $25 each These
ads run one time and typically come
from the Houston County State Court
or the municipal court of incorporat
ed cities.
Juvenile matter* This
broad category can include notices
such as adoption, custody, juvenile
court actions, ond temporary cus
tody These matters frequently have
fixed fees and run for I Tom two to
four times, depending on the order
Some of these issues come from the
Houston County Juvenile Court, oth
ers from the Houston County Probate
Court,
Domestic matter* These
include notices for change of name
and for divorce when one of the par
ties cannot be located locally. Bath

Notice of *ale or foroclo
•ure notice These notices are
usually run when someone, general
ly a financial institution, has not
received payment on a loan
Properly which secures the loan is
bping foreclosed on so the lender
can lake it to sell or otherwise pay
off the loan. A similar category is a
tax sale, where the county or a city
is selling the property to collect
unpaid property taxes These notices
typically run the four Wednesdays
prior to the first Tuesdoy of the month
