TENNIS LESSONS Thanks to the Perry Kiwanis Club and Catesby Dotson, these per
sons are able to take tennis lessons this summer! The 1998 Tennis Clinic, taught by
Dotson, is once again co-sponsored by the Club and the Recreation Department.

hope to reach goal in Valdosta

members of the Dixie Youth
League 13-14 year olds all-star
team could be shouting "To
Valdosta, and beyond" these
days.
Valdosta is the destination for
the state tournament of the
league. Play begins July 18 and
runs through July 22 in the dou
ble elimination competition.
Should the Ochlahatchec
group survive the state competi
lon, it would be on to Troy,
Alabama and the World Series
the first week in August.
To get to the state level, the

McGhee, son of Annie E.
McGhee of Perry, recently
departed on a six-month deploy
ment to the Mediterranean Sea
and Arabian Gulf aboard the air
craft carrier USS Dwight D
Eisenhower.
The 1996 graduate of Perry
High School joined the Navy in
August 1997.

Navy Hospitalman Adrienne
L. Scharff recently reported for
duty at Naval Hospital.
Jacksonville. Fla.
Her husband. Christopher, is
the son of Jennie Rossionol of
Hawkinsville.
Wood
Marine Staff Sgt. Franklin E.
Wood, son of Janice E. Wood of
Perry and Franklin E. Wood of
Elko, recently completed a six
month deployment to Okinawa
with 2nd Battalion 6th Marines,
home based at Camp Lejuene,
N.C.
The 1998 graduate of Peach
County High School of Fort
Valley joined the Marine Corps
in October 1988.

team had to first travel to Macon
this past weekend for District 3
play.
The local boys swept three
games there to advance. The
opening target, Monroe County,
tell by a 15-9 score. Then came
two straight wins over the host
team, north Macon, those scores
were 12-9 and 4-2.
The Ochlahatchec team was
paced offensively by Chad Van
Horn. Bert Dale, Zach Adkisson,
and Jordon Chandler.
Contributions were also made by
.other team members. They
include T.J. Hutchins, Matt Hunt,
Jordan Holt, Brad Woodard.

the Marine Corps Basic Combat
Engineer Course at Marine Corps

His wife. Erin, is the daughter

recently was promoted to his pre
sent rank while serving with

He is a 1994 graduate of

been together in the past, finish
ing third in the state last year in
the 11-12 year old group. In
addition, some arc teammates at
Perry Middle School. That team
finished second in the county this
past year.
The coaches are Ron Holt,
Gary Van Horn, and Ben
Adkisson.
The first game at the stale
playoff is July 18 against District
7 champion Mountain Park.
Action starts at 1 p.m. in the dou
ble elimination tournament.

Logistic Vehicle Systems
Operator Course.
The 1997 graduate of Peach
County High School of Fort
Valley joined the Marine Corps in
October 1997.

to his present rank while serving
