Christine Boland
BLAIRS VILLE Services for Christine Boland,
76, who died Oct. 3, 1998, were held at graveside at
Chattanooga National Cemetery Oct. 6 with the Rev.
Williams officiating.
Bom in Austin, Texas, she had lived in Blairsville
since 1975, coming there from Perry. She was one of
the first Delta Airline stewardesses, an outdoor
swotnan who hunted, camped and fished, a gardener
and scout leader.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Boland of
Blairsville; daughters, Shabari-Lynda Bird of
Blairsville; Dr. Pam Boland of Brasslown, N.C. and
Annie Bacon of Perry; sons, Chris Boland and Randy
Boland, both of Blairsville and 14 grandchildren.

program.

The Georgia Forestry Commission urges state res
idents to take precautionary actions in observance of
1998 National Fire Prevention Week designated Oct.
4-10.
GFC Rangers and Foresters throughout the state
urge hunters, campers, and other outdoorsmen to be
aware of wildfire potential at this lime of year.
Clearing a wide area around campfires and
extinguishing all campfires when leaving the area
are primary preventive measures especially impor
tant during the fall season.
Debris burning continues to be the number one
cause of wildfires, and GFC officials stress that a
burning permit is required for burning woodlands
and most other outdoor fires.
Burning permits, granted when climactic condi
tions are favorable, are issued by Georgia Forestry
Commission units throughout the state.
GFC officials point out that risk of forest fires has
17 years of combined experience to serve you better

Services for Martha Helen Chew, 78, who died
Sept. 29, 1998, were held at Watson-Hunt Chapel oct.

Brunswick for four years. She was also a former res
ident of Crawfordville where she taught Sunday
School and played the piano at the Crawfordville
UMC. She was a graduate of Ga. Women’s College
and a schoolteacher for 22 years. She was a former
member of the Perry United Methodist Church and
the UMW. She Was currently a member of the St.
Simons United Methodist Church.

house to an area of at least 30 feet, removing leaves

The GFC works in cooperation with Rural Fire
Defense (RFD) operations statewide in promoting
fire prevention. RFD is a network of volunteer
departments coordinated by the Georgia Forestry
Commission.

Mildred Clay
Services for Mildred Clay, 72, who died Oct. 3,
1998, were held Oct. 6 at the chapel of Heritage
Memorial Funeral Home with burial at the Parkway
Memorial Gardens. The Rev. David Carter officiated.
A native of Atlanta, she was the daughter of the
late Thomas William and Ethel Bryant Watts. She
was a volunteer with the Houston Medical Center
Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband. James M. Clay of
Centerville; sons, James W. Clay of Perry and
Anthony W. Clay of Centerville; daughter, Deborah
Lee Clay of Warner Robins; brothers, James R.
Bryant of Centerville and Tony Anthony Bryant of
LaFayette; and five grandchildren.

managed several commercial real estate properties.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Martin of
Centerville, and Marsha Nakayama of Aloha. Ore.;
grandsons, Jason Nakayama of Aloha. Ore., Steve
Martin of Centerville and Randy Martin of Lakeland.
Fla.; granddaughter, Kimberly Nakayama of Aloha,
Ore.; and great-granddaughter. Cheyenne Martin of
Lakeland, Fla.

Association of Central GA., 301 Mulberry St.,
Macon. GA 31201.

Benny Brant Redmond
Services for Benny Brant Redmond, 69, who died
Oct. 1, 1998, were held at First Baptist Church of
Perry Oct. 3 with speakers the Rev. Gene Cross, Dr.
Randy Kennedy and Horace Woodruff officiating.
Burial was at Perry Memorial Gardens.
Bom in Monroe. Ga.. he had resided here most of
his life. He was a former Marine and a member of the
Georgia Peace Officer’s Association. He was a
policeman for the City Qf Perry for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rocke
Redmond of Perry; daughters. Laura R. Peavy and
Bonny Redmond, both of Perry; son. Buddy
Redmond of Douglasville; sisters. Betty Farmer of
Bonaire and Cherry Tootle of Uvalda; brothers,
George D. Redmond of Bonaire. Bobby W. Redmond
of Satsuma, Ala., Jimmy O. Redmond of Jersey and
Danny Redmond of Perry; granddaughter, Brittni
Redmond of Hartwell; grandsons. Benji Peavy and
Lee Peavy, both of Perry.
