When the weather turns cooler
and someone mentions high
school sports, most people’s
thoughts turn to football.
However, there are a group of
young people and a coach at Perry
High who would think of another
sport, one that is sometimes over
looked but just as demanding.
Cross Country Running.

of practice is to lower the time a
competitor runs a race. To do this,
the runners must train their mus

the ball was jarred loose and the
Vikings recovered at their 19-yaid
line. They used the break to score
their first touchdown of the game,
using two big pass plays in the drive.
Chris Hardison hit Hinson for 25
yards and a first down at midfield and
four plays later, found the senior
wide receiver for 40 yards and a
touchdown. The point after kick by

Neither team could mount another
threat. That's the way the half ended.
After an exchange of possessions
in the third quarter, the Westfield
offense got cranked up again with a
nine-play scoring drive that started at
their own 35-yard line after Will
Sexton intercepted a Hardison pass.
The drive stayed on the ground
with Shell hitting the line on short
bursts, and Parker bolted for 40 yards
and a Westfield first down at the FPD
26-yard line. Walker got to the 16
with a 10-yaid carry, then got 13
more to the three. It took three plays,
but the Hornets punched over the
touchdown with 3:13 left in the third
quarter as Walker scored for the sec
ond time. Skinner converted the point
after to give Westfield a 21-7 lead.

Westfield 48-yard line
With a third-and-seven at the
Westfield 45, Hardison tried to pass
but Robby Heaton crashed through
the FPD line for a seven-yard sack,
forcing a Viking punt.
The Vikings then got a big play.
Hinson’s punt backed the Hornets up
to their own 15-yard line. Two run
ning plays put the ball at the 20. then
Matthew Hulbert ripped off 17 yards
for a first down before the Hornets'
second turnover of the game. Trevor
Jones tried to hit tight end Daniel
Weir, but the Vikings intercepted at
the 48 to stall the Hornets' drive.
FPD wasted little time in taking
advantage of the turnover as Hinson
hit Clayton Batts for 37 yards and a
touchdown on the third play of the
drive. The point after try was wide
right, and Westfield held on to the
lead 21-13.
With just over three minutes left
in the game, the Hornets got what
