Encounter with Bea
Samples and donations part of Bea Knite’s
volunteer work at area grocery stores
BY CHARLOTTE PERKINS

If you spend a lot of time
pushing a grocery cart in the
Perry area, chances are good that
you’ve already had an encounter
with Bea Knite.
She's the lady with the sam
ples, who offers you just a bite of
some new brand of pizza or just a
taste of anew soft drink. Or,
sometimes, she’s the lady with
the bucket, who asks you for a
donation to some worthy local
cause.
Thai's Bea Knite the
woman that Kroger manager
Scott Moscly says “could ( sell
air!”
Mosely calls on the smiling
lady frequently not only to
talk customers into trying sam
ples, but also to raise money for
good local causes.
Her method is simple —and
mostly sure-fire: She greets
everyone with a smile and
makes her request “We’re
just asking for a dollar donation
for the hospital care fund for
children.”
Most shoppers stop their carts
and pull a dollar out of their wal
lets. Knite said. Some pass on
by. Either way, they get a smile,
and the dollars add up. The other
day, she had collected a thick
stack of $1 bills before mid
afternoon.
"I just love people." she said.
“I could spend my whole life
doing this.”
