Alice J. Boyer
Funeral services for Alice
Jeanette Mendenhall Boyer, 88.
were held on Nov. 10. at the First
Baptist Church of Hayneville. Burial
was in the Florida Memorial
Gardens in Rocklede, Fla Mrs.
Boyer died at the New Perry
Nursing Home on Nov. 8.
A native of Kenton. Ky„ and the
daughter of the late William L.
Mendenhall and May J. Loving
Mendenhall, she was the widow of
George Marcus Boyer.
She had lived in Perry for the past
four years, moving from Barefoot
Bay, Fla., where she was a member
of the Barefoot Bay Homeowner’s
Association, Art Chapter #1263. and
the Midwest Cluh. She was a mem
ber of the First Baptist Church of
Havneville and a member of the

Major high school rodeo this weekend

Local girls Sheryl Bowen and Leia Warner are
entrants in The 1998 Southeastern Rodeo Showdown
competition at the Georgia National this "
month according to Kathleen O'Neil spokesperson
for the Fair.
Bowen, of Warncr-Robins, an 18-year-old senior
at Houston County High School, will enter this rodeo
as a third time veteran in high school rodeos. Bowen
has been riding for 6 years and competing for 5.
She also competed in 4H state and regional com
petitions for the last four years, and was a '97 winner
in the contest division. In the '9B state finals she fin
ished sixth m poles, and 20th in barrels competitions.
Bowen said she will be participating in the barrel
racing and pole bending competitions Bowen has
been riding her horse “Squeeky" for six years and
credits in her best friend Sunny Bayer with inspiring
her involvement in riding.
Leia Warner, a 15-ycar-old resident of Kathleen,
participated in Junior Rodeo one year, and rode west
ern pleasure and English in 4H competitions.
Last year in the Junior competitions held in Fort
Valley, Warner placed third in barrel racing and
World War II planes to visit Macon Nov. 14-16

Li/ Garcia Museum of Aviation at
Robins Air Force Base Director.

Survivors are her daughter, Linda
Colucci, two grandsons, Michael
Anderson and Robert Anderson, and
a great-grandchild, all of Bonaire.

Funeral services for Hazel Lee
Mixon Christie, 76, are plaimed for
3:30 p.m., Nov. 11, in t(rc First
Baptist Church of Perry with burial
following in the Oak Hill Cemetery
in Griffin. Mrs. Christie died on
Nov. 9 at the Perry' Hospital.
A native of Maynor, Ga., and the
daughter of the late Perry Allen
Mixon and May Thomas Mixon, she
was a retired school teacher who had
taught for 42 years in the Griffin-
Codings Foundation.
A drawing will be held Nov 14
at 5 p.m. to raffle a ride aboard one
of these rare bombers the next
morning. Tickets will be available
at Lowe Aviation in Macon and
the Museum of Aviation in
Warner-Robins for $5.00.
The “All American" is the only
restored and flying example of the
WWII B-24J' bomber, and the

Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and of
the Georgia Education Association
and National Education Association.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Perry and the
Jewel Tcresi Sunday School Class.
She was the widow of the late D.B.
Christie Sr., former high school prin
cipal and school superintendent of
Griffin-Spalding Schools
Survivors include two sons. Dr
Hugh Allen Christie of Griffin and
Dr. Dudley B. Christie of Perry, as
well as four grandchildren.

' The 9th3V&ftual Southeastern Showdown Rodeb
will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter in Perry Nov 13-15. The Fairgrounds will
play will host approximately 700 participants coming
from Georgia, Alabama. Florida, North Carolina.
South Carolina, and Virginia, O’Neil said.
Rodeo events will include bareback bronc, goat
tying, saddle bronc, calf roping, breakaway roping,
steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, pole bend
ing and bull riding, and jack pot team Roping will
take place at the practice arena Friday and Saturday
nights.
The schedule for events includes Nov 13 7:30
p.m., Nov 14 7:30 a.m., and 7:30 p.m., Nov 15 7:30
a.m. and 2:30 p.m..
Admission fees will be as follows: Entire weekend
passes for adults will cost $15., Children 5-12 will
cost $9, and Children under 5 enter free. Daily pass
es for Adults will cost SB, Children 5-12 will cost $5
and children under 5 enter free according to Mike
Froehlich Executive Director of the Fairgrounds.

Daugherty, 44, were held on Nov.
6, at Watson-Hunt Chapel, with
burial following in the Perry
Memorial Gardens.
Bom in Oneida, Tenn., he was
the son of Eldene Cook Daugherty
and the late Lawrence D.
Daugherty of Dayton, Ohio. He
had lived in Perry for the last 18
years and was Field Water
Foreman for the City of Perry and
a member of the Outsiders Car
Club.
Survivors are his wife, Wendy
Wood Daugherty of Perry, two
daughters. Jennifer Daugherty of
Perry and Spring Dutra of Prescott,
Ariz.; three sons, John A.
Daugherty 11. Jason Daugherty and
brandon Daugherty, all of Perry;
his mother, Eldene Cook
Daugherty of Dayton, Ohio; his
parents in law. Bill and Judy Wood
of Perry; three sisters, Brenda Rice
of Roseville. Caljf., Susie
Summers of San Marcos, Calif.,
and Maryann Doty of
Miamisburgh. Ohio; three brothers.
Rick Reynolds and Jack Daugherty
of Miamisburgh. and Jack
Daugherty of Jackson. Miss., and
three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Autumn Fay Daughertv
