Moistner, Panthers take wrestling seriously
H\ ALLINE KENT
FOW THE TlMBt-JOUWAL .
To many, the sport of wrestling is the definition of
competition. Two people compete, one wins and one
loses. It is also one of the oldest and most tradition
al sports around. And no one lakes it more seriously
than Coach Sean Moistner.
Moistner. who wrestled on the high school and
college level, is in his fourth year at Perry High
School. His Panthers are currently ranked 7th and
finished I Oth in the state last year. He believes that
he has "a good team with the possibility of being a
really good team".
Assistant coaches are Dwayne Dimsdale, a first
year physical science teacher and Daryk Moistner,
who is finishing his degree and volunteers his time
with the team. Daryk Moistner has wrestled on the
college level.
In order to raise funds for travel and other expens
es, the team will be selling candy this week at the
school and in the community. Sponsors are also
needed for the team.
Last week, the team held the 4th annual Wrestle
Face Off at Perry High school. The event is designed
to introduce members of the team and give parents
and fans a taste of the season to come.

Dublin. Brandie Thomas was the
lead scorer with 12 points fol
lowed by Krystal Brown with 11.

had just finished the football sea
son, so the 55-point shooting per
formance was a mild surprise for
coach Rennie Atkinson.
Besides Jones’s 14. Will Holt
chipped in with 11 and Wes
Faulkner sparked a Westfield
rally in the third quarter with two
quick baskets to open up a close
game. The Hornets had led by
behind at 15. Other scorers
included Code 11, Fagan, 8,
Ragin 2, Green 4, and Woodard 2.
Coach Vickers admitted that
the Panthers spent the First half of
the Americus game "confused"
and didn't do things just right.
They came out in the right place
in the second half getting shots
off and making those shots
“count”.
The Lady Panthers had another
hard lime Saturday with a tough
54-35 loss to Warner Robins.
Brandie Thomas scored an amaz
ing 22 of those points. Alete Code
had 3, Fagan 4, Ragin 2, Green 1,
Woodard 2, Brown 1.

going to JV. Moistner gives the team this chance
every three weeks so that each member of the team
has a chance to make varsity during the season
The last match of the afternoon extracted the most
response from the crowd as Moistner wrestled junior
Fred Ridley in an exhibition match. Ridley returns to
the team this year as a three-year starter and 1997
area champion. Moistner won the match.
Ridley, who placed fourth in the stale last year, is
joined on the team by three other 1997 state quali
fiers. Ernest Howard. Quinton Johnson, and Ben
Katshor. Katshor was also area champion in his class
aqjl finished fifth in the state. He wrestled in the
nationals for Team Georgia.
For the first time in the history of Perry High
School, a female member joined the team this year.
Freshman Casey Harris is the only girl on the team
and the first ever to wrestle at the school. She is a
member of the JV team.
Other members of the team include 7th and Bth
graders from Perry Middle School. Because there is
not a wrestling program at the middle school,
Moistner takes the time to work with the middle
schoolers to help prepare them for the high school
level. The Bth graders are allowed to compete on JV.
