Class Retreat the class par
ticipated in a two-day, off site
retreat with team building sessions
conducted by John Jeffreys of The
University of Georgia's Fanning
Leadership Center.
Class Survey A survey of
participants’ opinions on the
strengths and weaknesses of Perry
and Houston County was conduct
ed at the retreat. The results are
used for strategic planning.
Class Graduation A gradua
tion ceremony was held on August
20 for the participants. All 15 class
members completed the program:

Perry Area Chamber of Commerce
Youth Leadership The
Chamber of Commerce began a
new program this year for Juniors
at Perry High, Houston High, and
Westfield High. This youth model
'of our adult Leadership Perry pro
gram seeks to orient youth to the
opportunities and amenities in
Houston County. It is our goal that
they chose to remain or return to
Houston County after they have
completed their post-secondary
education. We have had over
whelming response to this pro
gram and wholehearted support
from the Boards of Education.
Nineteen students enrolled in this
premiere session which ran from
September through February.
Members Services
Committee
Chairperson: Paul Davis,
Weyerhaeuser
Purpose: Recruit new members
and retain existing members to
have volunteers, leadership, and
financial support to accomplish the
chamber's program of work. This
committee is also responsible for
all services provided to members
by the Chamber, including spon
sorship of Good Morning Perry
Breakfast and Business After
Hours.
1998 Projects:
Membership Drive
Committee members conducted a
new member drive during the
month of june. The committee,
with approval from the Board of
Directors, appointed a staff mem
ber to act as a Membership
Account Representative to recruit
new members throughout the year.
The Chamber of Commerce gained
48 new members in 1998.

Chamber of Commerce continued
an exciting new benefit for mem
bers in 1998. Members can now

Membercare Alliance” 1 of Perry,
which provides group health
through Blue Cross Blue Shield,
and it is administered by your local
chamber member insurance
agents. Businesses can save 3%
5% off the cost of their group
health insurance. Currently, 12
Chamber members are taking
advantage of this program.
The Chamber of Commerce con
tinues to improve its incentive
package for new members which
includes free advertising and sup
plies totaling more than SSOO.
These incentives are provided by
existing chamber members:

Ribbon Cuttings/Ground
Breakings The Chamber of
Commerce hosted nearly Z 0 ribbon
cuttings and two ground breakings
in 1998.
Good Morning Perry
Breakfast- The Chamber spon
sored five Good Morning Perry
Breakfasts, which are offered free
of charge to all Chamber members.
ChirL-fil-A provided breakfast and
the Georgia National Fairgrounds
and Agricenter provided the facili
ty for all of these events in 1998.
Business After Hours- The fol
lowing businesses sponsored very
successful events in 1998: The
Mitered Corner, Perry
Chiropractic, Holiday Inn, CB& T
Bank and Synovus Securities, and
Henderson Village. SunTVust Bank,
Macon College and Houston Lake
Country Club again were co-spon
sors of our Joint Business After
Hours, which is held with the
Warner Robins Chamber.

One of our most popular events,
the Chamber had over 125 persons

Purpose: Tb support activities
of the Houston County
Development Authority and the
Perry Economic Development
Commission and respond to needs
of existing industry.
1998 Projects:
Development Tburs/Dinners
Representatives from the
Chamber of Commerce attended
Developer Dinners and Tburs
hosted by the Houston County
Development Authority on
March 26, April 23, May 21,
October 1, November 19 and
December 3. State developers
tour our existing industry and
infrastructure. The goal is to
remind them of what we have to
offer when they are seeking sites
for prospective industry.
Existing Industry The Perry
and Warner Robins Chambers of
Commerce and the Houston
County Development Authority
hosted the annual Established
Industry Appreciation Day
October 29 at Houston Lake
Country Club. The event brings
industry, government, and cham
ber leaders together for a day of
networking, fellowship and fun.
Over 110 leaders participated in
this year’s event.
Chamber leaders were also
proud to be involved with new
announcements this year.
Diversified Machine Services is
currently building a new 50,000
square foot facility in order to keep
up with recent growth. In addition,
two major road construction pro-
