Obituaries Eleanor Rape Brown Eleanor Rape Brown, 84, of 1309 Houston Lake Drive, died Jan. 31, 1999, in the Peachbclt Nursing Home in Warner Robins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Feb. 3, at the Watson- Hunt Chapel. Burial will take place in the Perry Memorial Gardens. Elder Gordon Buchan will officiate. A native of Houston County, Mrs. Brown was the daughter of Ancel G. Rape and Fannie Etheridge Rape. She was a home maker. She is survived by her daugh ters, Kay B. Jackson and Peggy Davis of Periy, and Jean Durden of Warner Robins; a brother, Ancel G. Rape of Warner Robins, and five grandchildren. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Perry Recreation department offers variety of opportunities Special to the'Times-Iqurnal The Perry Recreation Department in Perry is offering a variety of classes., including the following: The recreation department, located at 1060 Keith Drive in Perry, is offering a dog obedience and commands class on Tuesday evenings beginning Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Registration and a ses sion fee of S4O per dog is required for the 6 week class. A minimum of 8 students are required to con duct the class. Nancy Robinett will be the instructor. For more information call 988-2860. The Recreation Department is also offering instructional classes on clogging. Youth and adults will have an enjoyable and educa tional experience with this class. Instructor Mike Stanley of the Farm City Flatfooters will be instructing the 10 week session. Prior registration is required. Youth Ages 4- 12 are for ttiij. 4-H plans Rock Eagle retreat Special to the TiMEs-touRNAL Members of Houston County 4 - H are sponsoring a retreat for children at the Rock Eagle camp in Eatonton, from June 22 until July 2 said Kelli Pipkin University of Georgia County Extension Agent. The camp will feature lakeside cottages, archery, canoeing, sail ing, rock climbing, food classes, f utt - putt golf, basketball, tennis, ndian lore, hikes, two pools and a water slide. Betty Smith Hafley Betty Smith Hafley, 77, of 1015 Country Club Road, died Jan. 26, 1999, at the Perry Hospital. Services were held at the Perry United Methodist Church on Jan. 29, with burial in the Perry Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Marcus Tripp officiated. A native of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Hafley was a former resident of Maryland and Hampton, Va. She had lived in Perry for 22 fears. She attended Ohio Jniversity where she was a mem ber of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. She was a former librarian, had served as a Girl Scout leader, was a homemaker and a member of Perry United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Bill Hafley of Perry; two daugh ters, Kim A. Hafley and Kristen L. Carmichael, both of Orlando, 10 week session and Adult ages 12 and up are required to pay $25 per 10 week session. Class mem bers are also invited to join the Farm City Flatfooters Clogging Club following classes. For more information, call 988-8034. Youth basketball registration opens Feb. 8 *The Perry Recreation Department is now taking regis tration for Youth Baseball and Softball. Registration will begin Feb. 8 and run until Feb. 26 or until the teams are full. Children ages 5-17 are eligible with the child reaching age 5 before Aug. 1. Jackson, 66, of 621 Moreland Ave., Perry, died Jan. 30,1999 a the Perry Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at St. Christophers Episcopal Church, Perry. Burial was in Wood lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Arledge Jr. officiated. Mr. Jackson was a native of South Carolina. He moved to .. . The students watched as Toska located marijuana and cocaine which First Baptist establishes scholarship fund honoring the Rev. James Minor Teresi —_—.— > The First Baptist Church of Perry has established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of the late Rev. James Minor Teresi. Feb. 7 will be observed as a special day for giving to this fund. The Rev. Teresi was born in Rochester, New York, and moved to Madison, Ga., at the age of two. He was educated at Mercer University and pastored Kentucky and Georgia churches for 70 years. He served First Baptist-Perry as Pastor, Interim Pastor and Pastor Emeritus over a 40 year period. He also served as interim pas tor for churches of other denomi nations in the middle Georgia area. He died in 1990. Jimmy D. A Mason and a Shriner, he was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruby W. Jackson of Perry; his daughters, Cissy J. Black of Perry, Deborah J. Combs of Macon and Connie J. Lockerman of Bonaire, his sisters, Grace Belue of Nevada, Helen Lefler of Fla. and Loring Sands of Illinois, and three grandchildren. Ernestine Harper Marshall Ernestine Harper Marshall,77, of 507 Bradley Street, Perry, died Jan. 31, 1999, at the Perry placed in interest bearing securi ties with the interest to be used for scholarships for derserving students who seek a Christian vocation. The church will accept offer ings such as memorial gifts, cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, wills, trusts and other securities for the memorial scholarship fund. Red Cross offers “CPR Saturday” The Houston Middle Georgia Red Cross Chapter will offer “CPR Saturday” free to the first 100 partiepants to register. The course will be given on March 13. She was retired from Robins Air Force Base and was a member of the Memorial Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Walter F. Marshall of Perry; her sons, Fracis Marshall and Wayne Marshall, both of Perry, two sis ters, Fannie Waddell of Brooks and Ida Ruth Whitehead of East Saint Louis, Missouri, and three great-grandchildren.
