Knights and
fair ladies
at Agricenter
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Times-lournal Staff
Sunday, the cheering was for
the Supcrbowl, but a few days
before that, hundreds of young
people cheered noisily for anoth
er kind of sports extravaganza -
out of the distant past.
On Jan. 29, the Medieval
Times troupe from Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina, present
ed a Tournament of Games in
the Reaves Arena at the Georgia
National Fairgrounds.
As young people from high
schools across the state shouted
and clapped for their favorites,
knights in brightly colored
medieval dress put their equally
dazzling horses through their
paces, competing in a wide-range
of competitions with lances and
spears.
The girls learned a little about
medieval chivalry and romance
as the knights ended each com
petition by handing out individ
ual flowers to members of the
audience.
