.The birth of the Brett twins in

Elmo works for Houston

discovering “84 Charing Cross

Reader’s Digest many years ago.
It’s a book of endearing letters
between a writer in New York
City and a book store staff in
London. Just a few years ago it
was turned into an Ann
Bancroft/Anthony Perkins movie
and even more recently my neigh
bor Bob Norton made a video
from TV for me.
So when it came my turn to

passing around my copy of the

for all that correspondence to sink
in. Thank you, Claire Beckham,

Perry Kiwanis Club members
and guests were treated to a very
patriotic and meaningful presenta
tion by Fort Valley Kiwanian Tony
Sellier Feb. 16. He was introduced
by past Div. 25 Lt. Gov. Jack
Hunnicutt and accompanied by
several members.
Tony grew up in the oil fields of
Venezuela which resembled rural
Oklahoma during the depression
where he and his siblings weren’t
allowed around the wild carters
and were preached to by mission
aries and taught in the American
school.
He told of receiving his first
store-bought toy at age 12 in 1957
and finally getting television in
1960. Throughout his youth he
wanted to go to America, dreamed
of it, was obsessed to go. Finally, at
age 15 he entered prep school in
Miami 1,500 miles from his par
ents and went on to graduate |swi
the University of West Floridkrfn
1972 he became an American cit
izen and always gets emotional
talking about it.
Having never lived any one
place more than five years, Tony
found his real hometown when he
settled in Fort Valley to work at
Blue Bird Body Co. He learned
about roots, the richness of know
ing and being known by the many
people who make the town. To
hear his moving story made one
want to repeat the Pledge once
more with feeling.
Dr. Brian Gillis was inducted as
a new member by Steve Harrell
and welcomed by fellow members.

“I ran as fast as I could to my
