Georgia State Patrol at Perry Honored for Role in Operation Strap and Snap
Special to the Times-Journal
The Georgia State Patrol in Perry was honored
Feb. 23 by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
for its leadership in Operation Strap and Snap, a
statewide effort to increase seat belt and child safety
seat use.
Tim Jones, GOHS Director, has recognized the
officers of the Georgia State Patrol at Perry for their
efforts to save lives and prevent injuries on Georgia's
highways.
Operation Strap and Snap is part of the National
Buclde Up America initiative to increase seat belt
use to 85 percent by the year 2000. Currently, despite
the state’s primary seat belt law, only about 76.4 per
cent of Georgians regularly buckle-up. Last year,
over 1,500 people were killed in traffic accidents in
Georgia.

Operation Strap and Snap is truly among the most
important duties they will perform. The life-saving
potential of encouraging seat belt use is enormous.
Reducing our fatality rate in Georgia by just one
percent would save 15 lives and sll million,"
explained Jones. “Operation Strap and Snap reminds
Georgians: It’s Your Money. It’s Your Life. It’ the
Law.”
The Georgia State Patrol Post in Perry issued
1185 seat belt violation citations, 38 child restraint
citations, 21 DUI citations, 5 Drug arrests, 412
speeding tickets, and arrested 3 fugitives just during
Waves Five and Six of Operation Strap and Snap.
On a statewide basis, Georgia officers wrote more
than 117,000 seat belt tickets and over 9,500 child
restraint citations during the first four waves of
Operation Strap and Snap.
Patrick Dickey, Justyne Whitfield, and Jeffery
Williams attended a recent landscaping seminar.
maintenance, landscape maintenance and a trade show.
Speakers included industry experts from Georgia col
leges and universities, vendors and suppliers. A&A
Contractors of FVrrry president Walter Lewis said the

maintenance and design, improving customer service and
continuous improvement techniques.
