Ribbon cutting celebration held
at newly-renovated Burger King

A ribbon-cutting was held
Mar. 3 at Perry s newly-remod
eled Burger King restaurant on
St. Patricks Drive.
The remodeling, which
includes improved interior facili
ties, new landscaping, new exteri
or lighting, more convenient
access and a theme playground,
was completed in January.
On hand for the celebration
and ribbon-cutting were several
representatives of Schuster
Enterprises, the Columbus-based
business which owns and operates
the Perry Burger King, along with
52 other Burger Kings in Georgia
and Alabama.

Also present was David
Dennard, the new store manager,
and a number of local elected
officials and community leaders,
including County Commissioner
Larry Thomson, Mayor Jim
Worrall, Chamber of Commerce
President Chris Kinnas and
Police Chief George Potter, who
is a personal friend of the
Schuster family.
Marvin Schuster, Chairman
and CEO of the company, said
that the local Burger King is “a
great piece of property in a great
city,” an added that a visit several
months ago to the restaurant had
led to a decision to improve it.
Schuster also presented a
check to the Education
Committee of the Perry Area
Chamber of Commerce, and said
that his company looked forward
to more community involvement
in the future.
Mayor Jim Worrall, who pre
sented Schuster with a key' to the
city, noted that “It’s amazing the
impact this business has on our
community.” t
The expanded Burger King
now employs 45-50 people, has a
payroll of over $300,000 annually
and pays an average of $84,000
per year in sales taxes in addition
to annual property taxes.
Children’s Theater
to present “Pooh”
From Staff Reports
The classic story of “Winnie
the Pooh” will be presented by
Warner Robins Children’s
Theater on Mar. 12 and 13 at
7:30 p.m., with a Sunday mati
nee at 2 p.m. on Mar. 14.
Further performances will be
held on Mar. 18 -20. The the
ater is located on Pleasant Hill
Road.
Directed by Gail Cowan, the
live drama is based on A.A.
Milne’s classic book for chil
dren, which was adapted for
the stage by Milne’s sister.
The cast of 24 includes
young actors from ages seven to
17.

Obituary
Louise Almon Riddles
Louise Almon Riddles, 74, of
2470 U.s.. 41 N., Perry, died
March 5, 1999 at the Church
Home for the Aged.
Services were held March 7 at
the Oaklawn Cemetery in Fort
Valley, with the Rev. John Hall
officiating.
Mrs. Riddles, a native of Fort
Valley, had lived in Houston
County for the last nine years.
She was a life member of the
Daughters of the American
Revolution, and attended Agnes
Scott College and Mercer
University. She was a
Presbyterian and the widow of
Jack Riddles.
Survivors include her daugh
ter, Fay Tripp of Macon, her son,
John L. Riddles of Vidalia; a
brother, Robert Almon of Fort
Valley and four grandchildren.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.

THE FIRST QUEENS Meet the first Miss Dogwood and
Little Miss Dogwood. Honored in 1989 were Trena Sawyer
(left), Miss Dogwood, and Tiffany Giles, the Little Miss
Dogwood. Plans are in full swing to the 1999 Miss Dogwood
Pageants to be held on March 19 and 20 at the Perry High
School auditorium. The pageant on March 19 will De co
emceed by former Perry resident Katie Stephens, who was
recently crowned Miss Georgia Southern University and will
compete in the Miss Georgia pageant in June. Also, Andrea
Kirk, a former Miss Dogwood Queen, will be on hand to emcee
the pageant.
