Kiwanians set new record
for pancake participation

The Perrv Kiwanis Club
served a pancake breakfast on
April .3, and set a new record
by serving an approximate
1,200 pancakes to the
Dogwood Festival patrons.
A total of 609 people
attended the breakfast that is
held semi-annual at the
Houston County Extension
Service Ag Building along
Carroll Street. This is the fif
teenth year that the Kiwanis
has taken part in the fund rais
er breakfast, but the first time
that it has raised an estimated
S 1,700.
The money that was raised
from the breakfast will go to
different activities, with a
majority of the money going
to the Future Farmers of
America Hog Show. Other
money will go to D.A.R.E.,
Kiwanis Little League, a ten
nis program, Children’s

"This is the biggest crowd
we have ever served,” said
Chuck Ramsdale, Kiwanis
Club Secretary. “This was the
first year that we advertised
and it brought in about 100
extra people.’’
According to Jenny
Andrews, a member of
Kiwanis, “I think it was suc
cessful because of it was Easter
weekend, the weather was per
fect, and the flowers were in
full bloom. It was a good time
to celebrate Spring."

hard pressed to maintain this
level of giving without the
support of the community, and
businesses such as Cox
Concession, the Perry
Hospital, Applebee's,
Summerhill Elderliving
Home, Kroger and the
Houston Times-Journal said

Beltista Club home, garden
show draws large crowd

Members of the Beltista Club
had a busy day on April 3 as visi
tors from across middle Georgia
poured into the Georgia Living
Center for the club’s Spring
Home and Garden Show.
According to Jenclle Horne,
treasurer of the club, over 1400
people came to this years show -
for the best attendance since its
beginnings four years ago.
They also went away with
their arms full of plants, flower
pots, statuary, sterling silver and
more.

The show, which now attracts
vendors from as far away as the
Georgia coast and Florida,
offered a wide range of items for
home and patio as well as garden
plants.
Proceeds will go to a variety of
community service projects in
Perry and Houston County.

Softball tourney goes 14 hours

softball teams plaved in a double
elimination tournement during
the Dogwood Festival at Rozar
Park Saturday Apr. 3.
After 14 hours, a lot of games,
and a lot of sweat finishing first
place was the Hard level team and
finishing second place was the
Utility Services team according to
Jody Johnson Recreation
Department Supervisor.

Johnson who played during the
tournement said it that he played
for about five hours himself and
by the time the tournement was
over at 11:00 p.m. he was pretty
tired. “Most of the time when
you play a game you don’t spend
as much time playing as we did
Saturday”.
In a brief ceremony following
the tournement Jim Jones
Tournement Director presented
the team trophies and tee-shirts
to members of the winning teams.
