from area businesses
From Staff Reports
Masons from several counties
in the middle Georgia area
recently worked together to
restore and renovate the
Hayneville Masonic Lodge.
They also had good support from
area businesses for the project.
According to the Masons,
Tolleson Lumber, Conner’s
Carpetmax, Warner Robins
Supply, Lowe’s and the Ace
Hardware stores in both Perry
and Hawkinsville pitched in with
supplies for the project.
At the completion of the pro
ject the team of workers and a
supporting team of older mem
bers enjoyed a fish fry to celebrate
the successful effort.

everyone to stand and tell us their
name, the town they live in (or
area of the county), what they do
for a living, and what their spouse
docs for a living.
In criminal cases, the State
goes first with “voir dire,” which
is questioning of jurors. In civil
cases, the plaintiff goes first. The
defense always goes last.
I will cover the State’s objec
tives in questioning in another
column.
Once questioning has ended,
the lawyers are given 15 minutes
to make their decisions. The jury
is called back into the courtroom
and selection begins.
I always say that it is actually
“de-selection” because we don’t
pick who we want so much as
who we don’t want.
Once the jury has been select
ed, they are seated and given an
(Continued from page 4A)
oath specific to their case. The
trial will then start at the time set
by the court.
Jurors are instructed to keep
an open mind throughout the
trial. They are also instructed not
to discuss the case with anyone,
including their family.
They are not to do their own
investigation. Their decision
should be based on what they
hear in the courtroom and their
own “common sense” that they
brought with them into the
courtroom. Let the trial begin.
