Ace & Sluggo’s
Picks of the Week
Our publisher, out of the kindness of his soul has
arranged for the early parole of childhood pals Ace
Coogan and Sluggo Mars, on the condition that they take
on the universally despised chore of filling page 3 will glib
comments about upcoming events. Have patience with
the boys, they're new in town (We were forced to clean up
some of the language and correct some of the idiomatic
expressions for our family paper)
Ace: Hiya, I’m Ace I used my time in the joint to better
myself as a human being. I studied the worlds of arts and
ideas and find Athens to be a rich environment. My buddy
Sluggo’s pedestrian and dogmatic. He fears and de
spises those things he can’t understand.
Sluggo: Go suck an egg
Ace: Hey, don’t get wise, mug So. we’ve got our work cut
out for us Two weeks to cover right off the bat.
Sluggo: They’d better cough up twice the dough.
Ace: Well pal, it looks like we’re off to a bang with back to
back dynamite at the 40 Watt. NRBQ and the Pylon send
off should fill the bill for me
Sluggo: Aww, you’re all wet! I’ve got a date with cigarette
truck and then you can find me at the Flying Buffalo for
Tinsely Ellis and Dashboard Saviors.
Ace: Tinsely Ellis, why that’s a fine choice. Sluggo.
Sluggo: Buzz off, creep You and your fancy-schmancy,
college boy.. Why, what you know about blues music
wou dn’t fit in your hat., pinhead
Ace: Well, how 'bout the benefit for Healers’ singer, Don
Simonds at the GA Theatre on the 27th I hear the Normal-
town Flyers are headlining the show. Sounds l<ke a great
way to make new friends
Sluggo: Ohh, applesauce. I’m parkin’ my butt in front of
the tube.
Ace: Oh right, ABC is airing that locally produced REM
segment on the MTV Anniversary Show.
Sluggo: R E M.? I’m set for that 24 hour Dragnet marathon
on the Detective Channel R E M.... sheesh, what a ma
roon.
Ace: But hey, I forgot all about that swell Dogzilla show on
the 24th at the Downstairs They’re supposed to be a real
party band
Sluggo: Heck, after Black Elvis’ gig on Saturday night at
Thomason’s, I’ll be lucky if I’m not in traction.
Ace: That will be quite a show What with that and bands
like Five-Eight, Majister Ludi, Sunspots and Northern Lights
coming up, that's two weeks jam-packed with entertain
ment.
Sluggo: Yeah right, and I’m a monkey’s uncle Aw, your
sister smokes cornsilk.
Ace: Speaking of squalid, unhealthy diversions, Shackler's
back and the 40 Watt's got 'em on the 3rd,
Sluggo: Shackler!? Why, loughta...
Ace: Well, that's it for this week. Have fun and drink
responsibly And remember, just because it’s the holidays,
it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself and still eat right.
