• According to the band's little bio. the name Aviso was found on
the door at Pep Boys.
• Jason was originally in Roarshack, has worked with Kera Schaley
in Diaper, and works with Van Roberson at Elixir recording stu
dios. He's played drums since the ninth grade.
• Mary Beth was the lead vocalist in Basement Saint. She moved
here from New Jersey. She also sang backup for The Go Fig
ures.
• Don was a poetry slam winner at the 40 Watt for the Lollapalooza
poetry slam contest. He got to go on the road with Lolla to per
form his poetry. He's also been in 3-4 Tribe and plays solo as
well.
• Jarrod was the local music director at WUOG 90.5 FM. He cur
rently QJs and also put together the Replacements tribute al
bum [Sorry. Ma. Forgot to Let Out the Cafl of which t-shirts ere
currently available (and they're cool!) at Wuxtry. The album will
benefit the Athens Area Humane Society. He also plays bass in
the band Ezra's Pound.
Aviso will perform atFrijoleros opening forAtticus Finch. Wednes
day. Jan. 25. Aviso have also recently played on Live In the Lobby
on WUOG 90.5 FM Tuesday. Jan. 24. (AvisoI
"We're learning how to grimace musically.' Brad said.
• The band likes to play Backgammon while touring. Gin (the game,
not the drink), l-Spy... Burger King and Arby's are the favorite
road foods as well as Scrapple. The Chinee Takee Outee is a
favorite too — there's one in Gainesville and one in New Or
leans.
• It's the age-old band cliche — 'some labels have expressed in
terest,' Mike said. Ryan quit delivering pizzas to be in this band.
Jimmy graduated with a Agricultural Technology Management
Business Option degree. Brad graduated with a Journalism de
gree.
•A description from Mike: 'tt's, uh, urn, OK. here we go again... a
cross between, no. scratch that... it's kind of... er... it's kind of...
I hate the word funk. It's kind of a pop/funk/alternative,
danceable, fun music.' "Yeah,' said everyone else. *We're not
trying to save the world; we just want to make a buck,' Ryan
said.
Dayroom will perform Friday. Jan. 27. at the 40 Watt with Three
Richards opening and Thursday. Jan. 26. at Smith's Olde Bar in
Atlanta with Elliot Wave opening. CDs and new T-shirts will be
available at thd shows or you can order your very own CD by
sending $ 12 made out to Dayroom to P.O. Box 1186. Athens. GA
30603-1186. The band wants letters and offers of shelter as well.

HUGH BLUMENFELD
Hugh Blumenfeld — guitar/vocals
• Hugh has two albums available — The Strong In Spirit and
Barehanded— on 1-800-PRIME-CD. a singer/songwriter label
out of New York.
• A description: 'He pursues the traditional art of the troubadour/
minstrel, writing timeless songs with a contemporary voice and
vision’ (according to the bio...). I was reminded of early Dan
Fogelberg.

• The band is releasing a new full-length CD called Perpetual Smile.
ft was recorded at Nickle and Dime Studios in Atlanta and pro
duced by Peter V. and Don McCollister. Peter V. has worked with
Herbie Hancock, Andy Summers and the Georgia Satellites.
McCollister has worked with Kristen Hall, Billy Pilgrim, Indigo Girls
and Donkey. This is the band's first CD.
• The band has 'a smattering of stuff' out available already on
cassette.
• Dayroom has been together for three years though in its present
lineup for four months. They've gone through four bass players
• The band is about to tour nationwide for 11 months, beginning
in Colorado. The band is touring by themselves though some
times theyll be opening for national acts. They'll be touring in an
'84 Dodge—the 'Nuclear Wessel' (think Chekhov).
• "The song topics have gohen somewhat more serious. They still
maintain a sort of humorous, ironic outlook,' Mike said.

• Dick Delicious has just released a 7* (yes; hah. hah) single on
Minneapolis's Spanish Fly Records: 'I Wish I Was a Dog’ and "Wak
ing up in a Pool of Vomit and Dirty Needles."
• They have played all over Atlanta since moving from
Mesopotamia, the town in which they claim to have been
founded in 100 B.C.
• Beavis & Butthead would probably say 'these guys rock.’ but
then, so would any 14-year-old into flatulence and the word
*1X111$.'
• Two of the band members claim to hold day jobs. Dr. Richard
Delicious claims to be (surprise, surprise) a free-lance gynecolo
gist; Hugh G. Rection used to be an astronaut.
• Delicious' literature touts the group's proficiency in a variety of
musical styles: grunge, funk, metal and rap 'all held together by
hilarious politically incorrect lyrics.'
• The members (smirk, chuckle) of Dick Delicious like to perform
(giggle) in ski masks, surrounded by scantily attired female danc
ers, likewise sporting masks. It may not be such a bad idea to
hide their identities — their high school classmates might kick
some of that medieval butt.
Dick Delicious & the Tasty Testicles will 'perform' at Frijoleros Fri
day; Jan. 27.

• The current lineup of the band has been together for two years.
• The band recorded a live a'bum at the Georgia Theatre entitled
Up and Fumbled. Dripped Away.
• A description: 'A virtual potpourri of musical styles. Classically
based rock'n'roll with an alternative flavor.'
• Damon is a dassically trained pianist. He graduated from Juilliard.
and is currently one of the top pianists in the world.
The Scattering will perform at Buzzard's Roost Jan. 26 with V. Kemp
Jones opening and The Buzz. (RM & HM)
