ViViSPECTRA,
Radio:Tahiti, Doug Nissley
Tasty World
Walking down College Ave. the other night, I
saw what looked like a tall clean-cut gentleman
taking a piss in front of Blue Sky Coffee. "Oh,
man," I thought initially, Tve gotta start getting
some sleep." But, sure enough, as a Blue Sky
staffer burst out of the shop with a portable phone
in his hand, the urinator tore into a gallop up
College, almost knocking me down. Apparently, he
hadn't planned his escape route particularly well: I
watched as he bolted across College, tried to take refuge in the stairwell in front of the Grill, and
eventually shot across Broad St., against the light, with three vigilantes on his taiL One of these
vigilantes, Charles Names of the local band ViViSPECTRA, was almost hit by a car as he pursued
the mad pisser. However, by the time the bike cops showed up, Names and his posse had
detained the pisser and brought him back to atone for his public incontinence.
So, what does Names do to calm his nerves after such dangerous acts of unsolicited heroism?
Judging from the recent live ViViSPECTRA disc Farewell To Rosie (limited to 100 tablets), he
soothes himself with broad, reverberating noisescapes equally haunting and cathartic, equally
beautiful and disquieting, at times recalling Swans' Soundtracks For The Blind and at others the
deep structural canyons in Philip Glass' soundtrack for Koyaanisqatsi—much darker and heavier
than Athenian contemporaries like Nipples For Days and The Noisettes. This is apparently
ViViSPECTRA's final show ever, and thus is not to be missed under any circumstances. Oh yeah,
and keep your bodily fluids to yourself. RadiorTahiti and Doug Nissley open. (Emerson Dameron)

Peligro, l/2ula,
Donkey Punch
Tasty World
Drummer D. H. Peligro's
punk pedigree runs deep: he
was the original spastic
drummer/songwriter in the
influential California punk
quartet the Dead Kennedys
and collaborated with West
Coast bands The Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Nailbomb and many
others. Known to his friends as "Dirty," Mr. Peligro is currently in command of a menacing rock
trio known simply as "Peligro."
The band—consisting of Peligro on guitar alongside drummer Steve Wilson and bassist Greg
Hanna—kicks a heavy-sounding blend of punk, metal and "thrash-bash" rock. The band has
described the whole thing as "straight bang up your head shit with hard-core swing like the ass
on a black chick."
Peligro is featured on some of the current Vans Warped Tour 2000 dates ana is headlining a
US tour of club venues behind a "slammin"' new self-released album titled Resistance Is Futile.
Punks and rockheads should come out early from the filthy woodwork and catch two of
Athens' more bizairo rock bands, l/2ula ("Halfula") and Donkey Punch. (BL)
