a slew of hits from the P-Funk catalog such as "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off tire Sucka),"

Andrew Bird's
Bowl Of Fire
Caledonia Lounge
Andrew Bird's Bowl Of
Fire—a fantastic ensemble
consisting of fiddle-playing
Chicagoan Andrew Bird,
bassist John Hirsch guitarist
Cotin Bunn and drummer
Kevin "Baby Dodds"
O'Donnell—has a strong
foundation in traditional
music that draws from vin
tage swing, jazz, klezmer and other early 20th Century musical styles. This mix of prohibition-era
sounds is spread across the band's recent album, Oh! P*e Grandeur (Rykodisc).
Known best perhaps for his work with the NC band Squirrel Nut Zippers, Bird, 27, is an
accomplished musician whose other projects have included recordings and tours with the Zippers'
Katherine Whalen and James Mathus, The Pinetop Seven and Lil' Ed Williams.
The last time Bird and his band of nimble cohorts blazed through Athens (in October *99),
jaws dropped on the floor at the band's technical prowess, impeccable candor and neatly-pressed
suits. CMJ has called him "the closest thing we have to a male Edith Piaf" Do not miss this
show. (BL)
