LIPPIZZANER STALLIONS The world famous
Lippizzaner Stallions will be making a special appear
ance in Athens for two nights of shows. See these

CANOPY STUDIO AND ATHICA In
conjunction with the opening
reception for the latest ATHICA
exhibit "Visceral: The Internal
Body," Canopy Studio is hosting a
"Visceral Performance Event."
Featured will be a PowerPoint per
formance/presentation by Kevin
Hoth titled "My Acne;" a fiber arts
performance piece by Lily Keber;
and "Looping BUTOH," a multi-
media dance performance by White
Crane Style (Kevin Hoth, Colin
Bragg and Blake Dalton). Canopy

► KURT NIKKANEN Come hear one of the rising
stars of classical music, solo violinist Kurt Nikkanen.
He had his debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of 12,
and has since played with prestigious orchestras
around the world. He will be accompanied by award-
winni.ig Canadian pianist Robert Koenig. The program
includes works by Beethoven, Repighi, Debussy and

THEATRE
24-HOUR PLAYS The UGA Thalian-Blackfriars present
The 24-Hour Competitive Plays. The evening will con
sist of a series of five one-act plays. All will be
written start to finish, cast and rehearsed over a 24-
hour period, beginning on Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. The
grand finale will be the public performance of all five
plays. UGA Fine Arts Building Cellar Theatre on
Saturday, Jan. 11 at 8 p.m.; doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $5 at the door, general admission. For those
interested in participating in the performance, regis
tration is free and open to all UGA students, no
drama experience required. Sign-up is at the Cellar

OBSERVATORY OPEN HOUSE Like to visit your local
observatory and view the heavens? The university's
24-inch telescope is at your disposal to view constel
lations and individual stars if the weather is clear. If
it's cloudy, there'll be a brief talk on current

FLUKE 2003 The second annual FLUKE Small Press
Comics and 'Zine extravaganza showcases work from
local and regional artists. See Box. Tasty World down

comic anthology. Admission to the concert that fol

LITERARY EVENTS
HAROLD BROWN UGA professor R. Harold Brown will
sign and discuss The Greening of Georgia: The
Improvement of the Environment in the 20th Century.
This controversial book asserts that the state's envi
ronment is actually in better shape than it was 100

PAUL HAMILTON PAYNE Dr. Rayburn S. Moore, former
professor«* English and Chair of the Division of
Language and Literature and UGA will discuss the life
and works of poet Paul Hamilton Payne, and his
Athens connections. Moore is Payne's biographer and
edited A Man of Letters in the Nineteenth Centuiy
