CHESTER (Tasty World) Emotional,
sugary alt-pop quartet from Kentucky.
HOT GRITS A-FLYIN' (Tasty World)
"Three nice Catholic boys and the fol
lowing instruments: guitar, mandolin,
banjo, bass and accordion." In addition
to their country/bIuegrass/fofk hybrid,
the trio boasts of a couple of traditional
Italian tunes in their arsenal and
they’ve issued this intriguing state
ment." One member’s a ninja. Come
guess which one."
JIM McKILLIP TRIO (Silver Screen
Grill, Crawford) The jazz combo plays
standards and originals. 7-11 p.m.
LITTLE GREEN CHAIRS (DTTs) This
Athens trio (featuring Dan Roth of the
Dan K. Theory and singer/songwriter
Ryan Taylor) hopes to expand their
lineup and repertoire in 2003 to
“embrace an Acoustic Syndicate style
vibe." For tonight, though, the guys
simply promise "a long set of originals
and good time covers."
MODIFIED CORY (DTs) Athens rock
quintet playing a groovy mix of covers
and originals drawing from classic rock,
jazz-fusion and modern alt-rock styles.

sugary alt-pop quartet from Kentucky
doing its second show in Athens in as ‘
many days.
DANK. THEORY (No Where Bar)
This Athens trio blends bluegrass,
classic rock, country, funk and jazz into
a heady musical mixture. Flagpole's
Melissa Bergeron reports, "With each
live show, one can expect some impro
visation stemming from influences that
range from classic rock to post modem
punk rock, or as (drummer) Bill Bokas
puts it, "The music we’ve been listening
to our entire lives," with special atten
tion to a melodic song structure, "but
not ad nauseam."
DEAN DOLLAR (Last Call) Atlanta
native (and Last Call regular) Dean
Dollar fronts his own barband-esque
quartet and lays down a number of rock,
country and soul covers.
DJ CHRISIS (Annex) The "host-with-
tha-skills."
DJ D (Last Call) Also known as "DJ
Daryl," this Atlanta-based turntablist
plays a variety of dance styles.
THE ESKIMOS (Caledonia) This
Athens-roots-rock quintet, comprised «.f
singer-guitarists Drew Sinclair and Dave
Weiglein, bassist Mark Lawrence,
drummer Jason Eshelman and rhythm
guitarist Mike Mawhinney—combines
both a Dylanesque knack for lyrical
imagery and a classic Brit-pop rock

FA1RBURN ROYALS (Caledonia) Pop
music filtered through a fuzz box,
adding a piano here and there, a back-,
wards tape loop thrown in for good
measure, and an undying faith in the
power of a catchy tune. [JK]
FIFTH YEAR CRUSH (Tasty World)
‘Pop/modem rock" from Gainesville. FL.
They’re ready for acquisition by the cor

BO FREEZE (40 Watt) Rock icon, 40
Wall heavy and servant of the dark lord,
bad Mr. Freeze plays hard ’n’ heavy rock
and roll with enough power and thunder
to knock the waits off Lemmy himself.
When this Athens rock singer/songwriter
is at his most impassioned, he's one of
the scene's top rock howlers. [8L1
JASON FULLER (Hollister’s) Athens'
most in-demand pianist will perform a
set of piano'nlsingin’ in the jazz, blues. ‘
boogie-woogie and rock styles. Covers
and originals. 10 p.m.
GRAND FURY (Roadhouse) This
Athens-based twang-rock quintet has
been busy all yearmixing its classic
rock, Americana and country influences.
As the band puts it the music is "too
country for rock and roll and too rock
and roll for country." Rural Intentions is
out now.
“GROOVE THERAPY" (Boneshakers)
DJ43 and Camilus keep things spinning
all night in a special house tag team
session that’ll rip the floor up with
breaks and techno.
NOTHING SIMPLE (Tasty World)
Jammin' rock band from Atlanta Its
"diet funk" sound falls somewhere near
that line between the modem and jam
varieties of rock. Listen for a few
obscure classic rock tunes, old-school
country covers and a "new, more groove
oriented sound."
