Fifth Year Crush,
Soundtrack Mind,
Nothing Simple
Tasty World
Calling themselves a
"pop/modern rock band"
from Gainesville, FL, the
members of Fifth Year
Crush look like a gaggle of
cutie-pie boys whose par
ents bought them guitars
to keep them out of
trouble, a la Creed.
On a quick visit to the band's website, www.fifthyearcrush.com (which is slick and profes
sional and shows that at least the ba'd has a little business savvy), songs from its two releases
The December Sessions (an EP released last May) and Two Twelve (released three years ago; at
least 1,000 fens bought the record) can be heard. And, while the band isn't really breaking any
new ground, the guys in Fifth Year Crush are earnest in what they do, not to mention practiced
and eager.
They’ve opened for bands like Sister Hazel and Dishwalla (which fairly represent what they
sound like musically) and are apparently quite the buzz down University of Florida way. They'd
likely make a pretty good addition to Atlanta's music festivals such as On The Bricks or Music
Midtown; they just have mass appeal written all over them.
Fortunately, they also got themselves booked at a pretty good club here in town, and Murphy
and Nick over at Tasty World aren't really known for being less than discriminating when it comes
to music. So they've got that going for them, too. Here's hoping they can repetitive-guitar-riff-
refrain themselves into the hearts of Athens music elitists. If not, there's a lot of room for a
hard-working band in Atlanta that, while not really blowing the minds of listeners, is willing to
entertain them all the same. Georgia Tech girls would go mad, mad I say. Hmm, the name of the
band just took on a whole new meaning.
