NORBIT (PG-13) Nice guy Norbit
(Eddie Murphy) is married to Rasputia
(Murphy again), a large woman as hid
eous on the outside as she is within.
When Norbit's soulmate, Kate (Thandie
Newton), returns, the mild-mannered
nebbish must find a backbone and
fight for his happiness. It’s sad to
see Murphy slumming again. Ends
Thursday (Highway 17 Theatres)
PATHFINDER (R) See Flick Skinny.
With its stylishly fetishized violence.
Pathfinder will draw innumerable com
parisons to 300, but this Vikings and
Indians action/adventure flick, owes
a lot more to the Conan wannabes
ot the 1980s The Hick, directed by
Marcus Nispel of The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre remake and written by
Alexander scribe Laeta Kalogridis, pur
ports to recount how the Vikings were
kept out of America by a Norseman
(Kari Urudii) who grows up To be the
Native American People's Champion
when the barbarians return with inten
tions to settle. Were Pathfinder not so
darned serious and so bleakly, miser
ably cold, all the decapitated heads and
freezing gouts of blood soaring through
the air in slow motion might have been
fun Pathfinder \sn't ironic, thankfully,
but the flick aspires to be more than its
pulpy origins or C-level talent. Alluding
to many better action ancestors, the
fairly dialogue-free Pathfinder could
have benefited from taking the road
less traveled. (Beechwood. Carmike)
PERFECT STRANGER (R) See Movie

THE QUEEN (PG-13) Oscar winner
Helen Mirren brings all her graceful
control and ice-cold radiance to a
Royal Majesty bungling the sudden
death of constant thorn in her crown,
Diana. (Georgia Square 5)
THE REAPING (R) Amidst Hilary
Swank not winning her third Oscar. The
Reaping wastes a decent idea—a small
Lovecraftian town in the bayou experi
ences the 10 biblical plagues—that
could have made for a nice, buzzy.
low-budget horror flick. Instead, we
get a name actress with no following, a
talentless director, and David Morrissey
looking and sounding like a Louisiana-
born Liam Neeson. (Beechwood). Ends
Thursday (Carmike)
REDLINE (PG-13) I liked this movie
better when it was called The Fast and
The Furious (Vin Diesel. Paul Walker
and cool cars) or even Too Fast Too
Furious (Paul Walker, cool cars and
Ludacris) or, God help me. Fast and
Furious Tokyo Drift(cool cars, that kid
from Sling Blade and actual drift racing
on the streets of Tokyo, oh. and about
10 seconds of Vin Diesel) And I don't
even like Vin Diesel, cool cars or Paul
Walker (although drift racing is at least
a novelty and Tokyo is a cool city, we ll
just leave Luda and that kid out of it).
Which is to say. Redlinehas nothing
original to add to the fast car sub-genre,
other than the producer's personal
exotic car collection (two of which were
actually wrecked). Eddie Griffin and
director Andy Cheng, former Tae Kwon
Do champion and stuntman on dozens
of feature films. The plot? Pretty cars
go fast. Pretty girls have big boobs
That pretty much sums it up (Margaret
Moore] (Beechwood. Carmike)
SHORTBUS (NR) 2006 John
Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the
Angry Inch) returns with a second
feature that graphically examines the
sexuality of a group of New Yorkers
that converge on Shortbus, a weekly
gathering of music, art, politics and
sex (the no-boundaries kind) lovers.
