Rosenbaum, the founder of the North
Georgia Folk Festival, renowned local
painter and venerable folk music his
torian, heads up this gang of nautical
tunesmiths to sing traditional pirate
songs utilizing a lot of rhythmic call-
and-response and occasionally bawdy
lyrics. Performing as part of the closing
event for the ATHICA Emerges exhibit.

mental Athens singer-songwriter Bain
Mattox and his backing band Shot
From Guns offer audiences acoustic-
based college rock that's both emotion
ally direct and emphatically heart-turn
ing. The sophomore album is called
Prizefighter, and Mattox’s new solo
album is called Bird in the Hand. Night
one of a two-night stand, tonight’s an
electric set.
BIRDS&WIRE (Caledonia) This local
four-piece plays alternative country
with a dark sound, incorporating sweet
vocal harmonies and pedal steel.
Vocalist-guitarist Lera Lynn is backed
by bassist Ck Koch (Electa Villain), lap
steel guitarist Neal Fountain and drum
mer Jeff Reilly.
CHRIS McKAY & THE CRITICAL
DARLINGS (Little Kings) Drawing
equally on ‘80s power-pop like the
Cars and earlier stuff like the Kinks,
frontman Chris McKay has a sharp
lyrical turn for every melodic offering
of his bandmates. Lineup changes have
expanded the band to a four-piece, and
the guys’ve been at work on new mate
rial for a while.
