Go Bar - 9 p.m. - $5
For the kickoff of a planned series of
showcases spotlighting up-and-coming
hip-hop artists from Athens, Atlanta and
around the region, local emcee Seline
Haze has put together an exciting lineup
of underground talent. The main attrac
tion is buzzy ATL duo Paid in AmeriKKKA,
whose fluid sound draws equally from
trap, boom bap and futuristic funk, as
heard on the group’s self-titled 2017
album. South Carolina’s Shyland Flowers
puts an old-school spin on indie rap, and
Atlanta emcee Bastard Hootie makes
his Athens debut. Locals Motorhead 2x
and Trvy round things out for The Garden
Bed’s first edition. [GV]
Dodd Galleries - 6-8 p.m. - FREE!
Organized by Tif Sigfrids, “Kiki
Kogelnik, Julia Scher, Erika Vogt, Lisa
Williamson" presents works made
between 1967 and the present that touch
on technology in relation to the human
body and representations of the female
figure. “Bad from Cortona" shares photo
graphs from artists who have participated
in UGA’s Italy study abroad program over
the past 50 years. Grad students Nick
Abrami, Christina Foard and Mary Gordon
explore personal histories in “Codified
Color,” while MFA candidate Robby Toles
reimagines the YouTube blog with a rec
itation of a 19th Century love letter in
‘Immortal Beloved." [Jessica Smith]
Go Bar - 8 p.m. - Donations
Designed to raise awareness of mental
health issues, Brain Aid Fest concludes
its seven-day run with a show in memory
of Athens artist Mina Kim, who died last
year. The evening kicks off with Elephant
6 OG Robert Schneider, who will demon
strate his Teletron synthesizer, which is
controlled by the performer’s brain waves.
Je Suis France, the longtime Athens/
Atlanta indie-rock supergroup, will debut
tracks from its upcoming album, Back
to the Basics of Love. Others on the
bill include Charleston, SC, jammers
Tomatoband, local folk project Sailors
and Ships, Harry Carey frontman Jim
Willingham and more. [Gabe Vodicka]
Flicker Theatre and Bar - 9 p.m.
Comedian and producer Jesse
‘McQueen” Adams is the creator of
Comedy Central’s Snapchat series “Heads
Will Roll,” and has headlined a Funny
Or Die tour. His live shows are a rare
multimedia hybrid of music, visuals and
stand-up during which original songs and
voiceovers accompany images and video.
Adams, who splits his time between New
York and Los Angeles, will perform tracks
off of his upcoming debut album, Black
Cat, which will be released via L.A.-based
comedy label ASpecialThing Records on
Oct. 25. The conceptual comedy album
is a surreal trip inspired by childhood
fever dreams. [JS]
