THE SOUTHERN WORLD. APRIL 15 1884.
Insomnia.
The proximate cause of sleeplessness
is plethora of the cerebral blood-vessels,
and a palliative cure can be effected by
anything that lessens the tendency of
the circulation toward the head. But a
permanent cure may require time and
patience. By night studies brain workers
sometimes contract chronic insomnia in
that worst form which finds relief only
in the stupor of a low fever, alternating
with consecutive days of nervous head
aches. Reforming topers often have to
pass through the same ordeal, before
the deranged nervous system can be re
stored to its normal condition. Fresh air,
especially of a low temperature, pedes
trian exercise, and an aperient diet, are
the best natural remedies. Under no
circumstances should sleeplessness be
overcome by narcotics. An opium torpor
cannot fulfill the functions of refreshing
sleep; we might as well benumb the
patient by a whack on the skull.—Dr.
F. L. Oswald, in Popular Science Monthly
for April.

BOON KVER BESTOWED ON BUFFERING WOMAN.
Could more be expressed in the same number
of words than the following:
Dr. Wilson:-1 consider your medicine the
greatest blessing given to woman. With my oth
er two children I was In labor from twelve to
fourteen hours, suffering intense pain all the
time, but with my last I was under your treat
ment, and followed it to the letter and was sick
only four hours, suffering so little I could scarce
ly realize the child was bom. I never expect to
have another without using it.
What another says:
Dr. Wilson:—I cannot speak too highly of your
medicines, and recommend them toall suffering
women. My physician says he never saw any
one have such an easy time. I was sick Just three
uarters of an hour from the time I was taken,
had very short pains and an easy labor. I bad
two expulsive pains and these were very short.
Use this In any way you see proper. I am satis
fied your medicine is a great thing.
