Award Winning Author to DOE Funding Continues

winning author Mary Kay
Andrews at Georgia
Southern University's
Women's Forum on Monday,
November 17.
Tapped as the Forum's
keynote speaker, Andrews is
a former reporter for The
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
and the author of ten critical
ly acclaimed mysteries
including Savannah Breeze,
Blue Christmas, Hissy Fit,
Little Bitty Lies, and
Savannah Blues. Her books
may be purchased on-site the
day of the Forum.

University's Continuing
Education Center, the Forum
will run from 11:30 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. at the Nessmith-
Lane Continuing Education
Building in Statesboro. The
Forum provides an opportu
nity for women to socialize,
network, and address issues
that face women.

Savannah State
University’s Educational
Talent Search (ETS) program
has received $439, 406, the
second of four annual install
ments from the U.S.
Department of Education that
began September 1, 2007, and
will end August 31,2011. The
total award amount for the
four-year program is $1,706,
432.
The ETS program, a unit
of ACCESS (Assuring
Commitment, Continuity and
Excellence for Student
Success) Programs at SSU, is
designed to offer a continuum
of activities, information and
services to enable low-
income/first generation, col
lege-bound students with aca
demic ability to realize their
potential for education and
development beyond high
school.
Services will continue to
be delivered in Savannah-
Chatham County to nine mid
dle and five high schools over
the course of the award peri
od.

dents in achieving success in
Savannah-Chatham County
and look forward to the con
tinued partnership and support
from the campus, community
and Savannah-Chatham
County Public Schools,” said

ACCESS Programs.

23 undergraduate degree
