Democrats of Georgia and
St. James A.M.E. Church are
holding the Power of the
Vote II.
The event will be held
on Saturday, October 25,
2008 at St. James A.M.E.
Church at 632 East Broad
Street in Savannah from
10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. In addi
tion, Bring- A- Friend to the
event and win a prize. Light
refreshment will be served.
Moreover, this is a
forum where community
leaders, elected officials, and
candidates running for office
will discuss a range of issues
such as education, health
care, home land security and
et al., Also, the Chatham
County Voter Registration
will be demonstrating how to
use voter machines properly
and voter education.

Youth Futures Authority
Launches Savannah
CARES
The Chatham-
Savannah Youth Futures
Authority (YFA) is pleased
to announce its local mentor
ing effort for the community,
Savannah CARES. Savannah
CARES is a network of men
tor programs and prospective
mentors in the city. This
CARES Circle was estab
lished based on the National
Cares Mentoring Movement
(NCMM), which is a nation
al endeavor designed to pro
vide organizational direction,
leadership, and technical
support to communities. The
purpose of the Savannah
CARES is for the Youth
Futures Authority to serve as
a neutral source for mentor
programs and prospective
mentors to learn of available
resources and initiatives.
The Authority is look
ing for mentoring programs
throughout the community to
register with Savannah
CARES. As a registered pro
gram within the community,
you will receive benefits of
mentor and mentee referrals,
technical assistance, and pro
gram development support.
If you are an adult willing to
give a minimum of four
hours per month to offer
guidance and support to the
youth of Savannah, please
sign-up with Savannah
CARES. YFA will link possi
ble mentors with registered
Savannah CARES mentoring
programs. The group will
meet monthly in an effort to
provide updates, and assis
tance with program or men
tor challenges.
The NCMM is part
nered with the 100 Black
Men of America, the
National Urban League, The
Links, Inc., and Big Brothers
Big Sisters to name a few.

AASU Celebrates
International Week
Armstrong Atlantic
State University (AASU) will
hold its eighth annual
International Week starting
Sunday, November 2,
through Friday, November 7,
2008. The Office of
International Education hosts
the weeklong celebration of
diversity and multicultural-
ism on campus. All events are
free and open to the public.
The week will kick off
on Sunday with an outdoor
International Street Festival
featuring informative dis
plays, multi-cultural enter
tainment, and free samples of
food prepared by AASU’s
international students and
faculty, who represent more
than 70 countries.
Other highlights include
Russian born
singer/pianist/songwriter
Marina V. and comedian
Vidur Kapur. In addition to
being nominated for MTV’s
NewNowNext award, Kapur
is also a New York finalist for
NBC’s “Stand up for
Diversity.”
