Carver Bank Vice President Speaks at Flipper Chapel
Claudia Clark
Carver State Bank Vice
President Claudia Clarke was
the guest speaker at the wor
ship service at Flipper Chapel
African Methodist Episcopal
Church on Sunday, October
26. The service theme high
lighted the Chinch's Capital
Campaign.
Clarke told the congre
gation that she was very proud
to speak at Flipper Chapel
since she grew up in the
Carver Village community
(now called Carver Fleights).
Flipper is located on Pitt Street
very near Carver Village. She
described the closely-knit
community that she remem
bered where neighbors knew
each other and you were disci
plined and cared for by all
adults, even those who were
not related to you. “I can
remember walking from Pearl
Lee Smith School, down Pitt
Street, and passing Flipper
Chapel on my way home from
school, and we did not have to
worry about drugs, robbery or
kidnapping. I feel sad that our
children now who have to
grow up in a world where they
do have to worry about these
things,” she said.
As requested by
Reverend Carol King, the
Pastor of Flipper Chapel,
Clarke addressed finances
during her address. “Many of
the teachings of Jesus were
about money and posses
sions...twenty-seven out of
forty-three parables in the
Bible are metaphors about for
the subject of money,” she
said. Clarke told the congrega
tion that the Bible says that the
love of money is the root of all
evil, but it does not say that
possessing money is the root
