The day was dubbed
the official Shannon Sharpe
Day. SSU has retired the No.
2 jersey that Sharpe wore
when he played for the
Tigers in the late 1980's.
An unveiling ceremony
was held in Tiger Arena for
Sharpe before the game
against Bethune-Cookman
University.
Teammates, Sharpe's
former high school coach
and family members wit
nessed the unveiling of his
framed No. 2 jersey in con
junction with his Broncos
No. 84 jersey that will be dis
played on campus. Sharpe
was honored that his alma
mater thought so highly of
him to dedicate a day in his
name and retire his jersey.
'Tm honored that they
have retired the No. 2 jersey
because I wouldn't want any
other player to feel pressured
to live up to that number,”
states Sharpe.
Sharpe plans to con
vene with the university's
president Earl Yarborough
for future contributions to the
university after seeing how
much the school appreciates
him.
“ I am a private man
and the president knows that,
so I'll have to meet with him
to see what direction we can
go in whether it is financial
ly, I'll do what I can to help.”
Sharpe will achieve
another victory that will take
place for him later this year
as he will be inducted into
the Division II Hall of Fame.
